OVERVIEW:
The Analytics Engineer is a critical role in the Business Intelligence team, working toward the goal of designing and implementing complex data-driven decision-making solutions for Year Up United. Sitting in IT, the Analytics Engineer collaborates with and influences analysts and business users across the organization to produce analytical material that enables a more rigorous and empirical understanding of our operations and outcomes through data.
Business Intelligence sits at the intersection of business and technology, and this role is grounded in both. As a technical position, our day-to-day work primarily consists of leveraging the modern data stack that drives insights for hundreds of staff across the country. Year Up United takes an evidence-based approach to program development and improvement (see our Research & Evaluation results). The Analytics Engineer must become fluent in Year Up United’s operations and quantitative management systems while effectively serving as an internal consultant who can demonstrate insights that measure organizational impact and results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Business Intelligence team manages the entire data pipeline, from data extraction through reporting. As an Analytics Engineer, you will leverage our modern data stack to design and produce data models and visualizations that drive data-informed decision-making. You will partner with multiple levels of leadership, including senior leadership, to understand the motivations and goals of functional teams so that we can iteratively develop effective outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with team members and functional stakeholders to collect business requirements and desired results. Design effective data models and dashboards to support organizational objectives.
- Approach solutions with an outcomes-oriented agile mindset and an inclination toward iterative development, ensuring meets its deliverables each sprint.
- Design, test, and extend dimensional data models in dbt that meet our internal standards for scalability, accuracy and best practices. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
- Extract data from external sources relevant to the mission of Year Up United, including education, demographics, and employment, through Fivetran, Matillion, or similar.
- Utilize software engineering best practices such as version control via Git, CI/CD, and release management.
- Implement data quality frameworks and data quality checks.
- Work independently and effectively manage time across multiple priorities and projects.
- Support ad-hoc requests and production issues identified using Service now system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years in the Data and Analytics space as an analyst, engineer, or an equivalent role designing, implementing, operating, and extending dimensional models with SQL (Jinja or Python a plus).
- 1+ years SQL-based analysis within a cloud-based data warehouse, preferably Snowflake.
- 1+ years’ experience building reports and dashboards in a data visualization tool, preferably Tableau.
- Experience managing SQL transformations as code using dbt (data build tool) or similar.
- Experience building reliable and resilient data pipelines using tools like DBT and Matillion.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices: DRY code, version control, code reviews, and CI/CD.

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will be particularly competitive:
- Managing a backlog of user stories using agile project management practices and methodologies
- Professional experience working in a related field, especially in IT or Education
- Familiarity with Salesforce, Netsuite, Workday and Adaptive
- Experience with our stack: dbt, Matillion, Snowflake, Fivetran, Tableau, AWS
Salary Range: $60,200 - $90,000

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Year Up United has established salary ranges for each of our sites, which allows us to pay employees competitively, equitably and consistently in different geographic markets. For roles in which the location is listed as flexible, the range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
