Location: Remote within U.S.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $90,000 (Depending on Experience and Location; this salary is based on California, New York and Washington DC only)

Purpose

The Digital Engagement Manager will play a key role in executing and optimizing our digital strategies with our members, focusing on email and mobile program management, digital fundraising, and list health and maintenance. This position will be responsible for developing and managing email and mobile engagement, fundraising campaigns, and strategies that build, engage, and retain our supporter base. The Digital Engagement Manager will also work closely with internal teams to coordinate and develop creative digital actions, storytelling and support cross-departmental campaigns and initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Email & SMS Program Management

  • Lead all aspects of the email program, including targeting, and scheduling.
  • Develop and execute email & SMS strategies and tactics in alignment with campaign objectives, coordinating multi-step campaigns across various issue areas.
  • Act as the “air traffic controller” for email & SMS communications, ensuring timing and targeting maximize impact.
  • Manage the email & SMS Welcome Series, including iterating, testing and optimizing content and delivery for new supporter onboarding.
  • Innovate email content through A/B testing and other performance-driven strategies to enhance response rates.
  • Manage SMS campaigns, creating compelling messages that drive action and engagement.
  • Conduct strategic A/B tests to optimize SMS outreach performance of our email.
  • Participate in high level campaign planning meetings to give input on email & mobile arcs, compelling calls to action, and growth opportunities.

List Health & Hygiene

  • Database management: Ensures proper systems, tracking measures and other protocol are in place to follow membership and the ways they move through our work within ActionKit and our tools both integrated and not currently integrated. This includes ownership of our tagging systems and other standards/tactics of data integrity.
  • Ensure optimal segmentation and tagging of list members to improve engagement metrics and targeting accuracy.
  • Maintain list hygiene by running reengagement campaigns and removing inactive contacts to keep the list active.
  • Keep up with email & SMS best practices, including deliverability, CAN-SPAM, segmentation, supporter lifecycles and member pipelining.
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Digital Engagement to develop proposals to improve ActionKit functionality.

Digital Organizing

  • Develop original and compelling digital tactics, such as petitions, campaign scripts, web content, and text blasts to persuade targeted decision makers and move people across the political spectrum to take action.
  • Work with other Dream.Org organizing and membership teams to develop opportunities for volunteers working on remote and distributed campaigns.
  • Leverage stories to develop digital content that activates supporters and moves them up a ladder of engagement.

Digital Fundraising

  • Write and develop fundraising emails & mobile broadcasts that effectively engage and encourage donations from supporters.
  • Oversee creation and execution of online cultivation, stewardship and engagement communications, as well as direct solicitations.
  • Liaise with programs and the Engagement department to identify specific fundraising opportunities linked to specific campaigns.

Data & Reporting

  • Analyze and report on email & SMS performance, making data-driven recommendations to improve reach and effectiveness.
  • Track performance metrics, report on trends, and develop insights to continually improve digital fundraising tactics.
  • Other tasks as assigned: data retrieval, report improvements and implementation

Preferred Education/Skills/Experience

  • First and foremost, a hunger and curiosity for advancing bold campaigns across criminal justice reform, climate justice, and economic equity.
  • 3-5 years in digital engagement, online fundraising, or communications for progressive organizations.
  • Expertise with email advocacy tools (such as Blue State Digital, Salsa, EveryAction, ActionKit) and online fundraising platforms.
  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, and the ability to translate data insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with database and email list management.
  • Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate complex information for diverse and mass audiences (e.g., supporters, partners, grassroots donors) across culture, age, race, and professional industries, via email, web content, or text messaging
  • Work both independently and as part of a high-performing team.
  • A passion for bridging divides and bringing people together around a common cause.
  • Tech savvy & keeps current with emerging digital platforms.
  • Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Political or advocacy experience is preferred.
  • People with lived experience or some other personal connection to the criminal legal system are encouraged to apply.
  • Openness to working with unlikely allies, which may include celebrities, business leaders, corporate partners, conservative partners, and elected officials.
  • Preferred: Track record for online fundraising and familiarity with programming languages like HTML and SQL.

All full-time employees receive Medical, Dental & Vision coverage. Dream.Org pays 100% of premiums for employees, spouses and dependents. Part-time employees receive 50% coverage. After a 6 month waiting period, employees can contribute to our retirement plan. Currently, Dream.Org offers up to a 5% match. We also offer a flexible spending, pre-tax program for medical expenses, dependent care expenses, transit expenses and parking expenses. All full-time Dream.Org employees accrue 4 weeks of vacation time off and 12 days of sick time off over the first year of employment. Part-time employees accrue time off on a prorated basis. In addition to 10 paid holidays, Dream.Org also provides paid time off from December 24th through January 1st each year.
