INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The Aspen Institute's Institutional Advancement department focuses on fundraising, donor relations, and special events to support the organization's mission. It encompasses various teams and roles, including corporate and foundation giving, individual giving, and event management, all working to advance the Institute's work and priorities.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will cultivate, solicit, and manage new corporate and foundation relationships to the Institute. The Senior Director will help foster broad scale, multi-faceted partnerships and will help drive the Institute’s strategic corporate and foundation funding goals in collaboration with senior and programmatic leaders. They focus on business development with an emphasis on growing current relationships and developing new relationships. They will also work closely with program directors across the Institute to assist in proposal concepts and sponsorship opportunities.
The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will represent the Institute at major meetings and events, when appropriate, across the country, specifically in Washington, DC, New York, San Francisco and Aspen, CO. They will travel with senior leaders and the CEO of the Aspen Institute to support donor and partner conversations.
This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Advancement. The slaary range for this role is $200,000 - $210,000. In accordance with our Reimagining Work policy, the Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations should be willing to be in-person with colleagues a minimum of 40% of the time while having the flexibility to work remotely for the balance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Collaborate with the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement to grow the Corporate and Foundation Relations program to increase unrestricted and restricted revenue to support the strategic direction of the Aspen Institute.
- Identify and develop, in cooperation with Institute leadership and program directors, corporate and foundation relationships with new prospects and identify opportunities for expanding existing relationships.
- Support the Aspen Institute’s corporate membership program, including prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate members.
- Serve as key liaison and a clearing house for Aspen Institute funding needs with foundations and corporations, with a focus on those that have multiple points of engagement with the Institute.
- Staff and support executive leadership with briefings and visits to foundations, corporations, and other prospects.
- Work with policy and public program directors to cultivate relationships with foundations and corporations, including identifying prospects, coordinating meetings and follow-up correspondence, letters of interest, and proposals when needed.
- Represent the Aspen Institute, specifically the Office of Institutional Advancement, as the main point of contact for foundations and corporations at convenings and forums, including the Aspen Ideas Festival.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE
- 15 or more years of professional experience in corporate and foundation fundraising or related field.
- Must be a highly motivated, well-organized professional with a progressive record of achievement and level of responsibility in fundraising.
- Must have proven record of new business development and history of closing gifts in prospecting, donor cultivation and gift solicitation experience resulting in successful closed gifts.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of tact and diplomacy is required to work well with donors, trustees, volunteers, and staff at all levels.
- Keen sense of personal integrity and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the Aspen Institute’s goals.
- Ability to foster teamwork, work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Ability to travel (10%).
