The Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation's premier gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across disciplines to engage in inquisitive discussion of the ideas that both shape our lives and challenge our times. This short-term editorial assistant will take on tasks related to the Aspen Ideas Festival website, print production, podcast production, mobile app, social media, and more. The ideal candidate is highly organized and digitally savvy with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and is comfortable in a fast-paced, constantly changing event environment. Editorial duties may include writing content for the website, assisting with social media, organizing photos and digital files, and gathering quotes during the Festival.Â



ABOUT THIS ROLE

This short-term Editorial Assistant will take on tasks related to the Aspen Ideas Festival website, print production, podcast production, mobile app, social media, and more. The ideal candidate is highly organized and digitally savvy with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and is comfortable in a fast-paced, constantly changing event environment. Editorial duties may include writing content for the website, assisting with social media, organizing photos and digital files, and gathering quotes during the Festival.Â

This role reports directly to the Digital Editor and Producer, Aspen Ideas Festival. The hourly rate for this role is $20-$25/hr. This is a short-term role starting June 2 and ending August 1, 2025. In accordance with our Reimagining Work policy, the Editorial Assistant should be willing to be in-person in the Aspen, CO a minimum of 40% of the time while having the flexibility to work remotely for the balance. Immediately before and during the Aspen Ideas Festival, this role will be in-office 5 days a week.Â



WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Perform basic functions in the website’s CMS.Â
  • Support mobile app team with administrative tasks.Â
  • Support podcast team with booking and back office updates.Â
  • Assist with staffing needs of events, lectures, and seminars.Â
  • Support organization and management of event video and photography.
  • Write original content for the Aspen Ideas Festival website.
  • Gather and transcribe quotes during Aspen Ideas Festival sessions.Â
  • Support social media team with content capture, organization, and administrative tasks.
  • Organize editorial sessions post-event.
  • Provide general administrative support as needed (copying, answering phones, database entry, fulfilling requests for information, etc.).Â
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and mailings as requested.Â
  • Additional projects as requested by the supervisor.Â

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE

  • 1-2 years' experience in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field; High school diploma required.Â
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience writing/editing for publication.
  • Passion for storytelling, journalism, cultural trends, and current events.
  • Marketing, social media, and design skills a plus.
  • Time management skills, proficient in multitasking and meeting deadlines.
  • Professionalism and good judgment.
  • Initiative and responsiveness, a “go-getter” who is comfortable taking minimal instruction and running with it.
  • Team player with ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Great interpersonal skills, including a desire to learn and the ability to be flexible and proactive.
