Program Description:

The Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Program (EEP) explores significant challenges with diverse thinkers and doers to make a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society for all. We address critical energy, environmental, and climate change issues through non-partisan, non-ideological convening, with the specific intent of bringing together diverse stakeholders to improve the process and progress of policy-level dialogue. This enables EEP to sit at a critical intersection in the conversation and bring together diverse groups of expert stakeholders. In addition to energy and environmental policy, which the program has been addressing for several decades, EEP is now actively and purposefully engaging in climate change policy – mitigating the effects of climate change, adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, and the international cooperation needed to achieve these goals.

Basic Function:

The Executive Office Intern will work directly with the EEP Executive Associate, Managing Director, and Executive Director, as well as other staff, to support the strategic management of the program’s various projects by assisting with high-quality in-person and virtual meetings and events and prioritizing key administrative activities to help bring important climate solutions to decision-makers. This opportunity is a part-time (20 hours per week, negotiable) paid internship ($15-17 per hour).Â

In accordance with our Reimagining Work policy, the candidate should be willing to be in-person with colleagues a minimum of 40% of the time while having the flexibility to work remotely for the balance. In-person consists of meaningful connections with colleagues in an office, traveling to a different office or location to meet fellow staff members, at an Aspen event, at a meeting outside the office or other opportunities to meet in person with teammates and colleagues. Â

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a motivated and organized intern with a self-starter attitude for Fall 2023 ( Ideally October 9 – December 8 - exact dates negotiable). The Executive Office Intern will have the opportunity to examine our projects, how information flows to the Executive Office and make recommendations. The day-to-day work involves a variety of tasks that will support the Executive Team’s priorities and ensure they are aligned with various projects and the team’s strategic goals. Specific responsibilities include:Â

  • Inbox and Calendar Management (35%): Manage internal EEP meetings (check-ins and recurring meetings), track the Executive Director and Managing Director’s schedule, and keep calendars up to dateÂ

    • Support daily briefings on project/task updates and tracking action items and follow-ups;

    • Manage the EEP Team calendar on Monday.comÂ

  • Task Management (35%): Manage meeting outcomes on a tracking sheet, document action items, ensure follow-up and assist with tasks as needed

    • Work with Executive Associate to analyze patterns, present key insights, and recommendations for improvement

  • Ad-hoc requests including but not limited to (20%): Organizing internal processes, researching stakeholders and/or topics, and proofreading and compiling reports

  • Event/Meeting Logistics (10%):Â Support with preparation and ensure materials are shared ahead of time

Knowledge, Education, and Experience:

  • Current or recent college/graduate student or other professional;

  • Experience working with Google Workspace

  • Experience working in the climate space or interested in learning and communicating about issues related to climate change.Â

  • Strong communication and organizational skills and attention to detail;

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills;Â

  • A “Yes, and” positive attitude;

  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks.Â

  • Entrepreneurial or self-starter attitude.
