ROLE TITLE: Manager, Special Projects (Full-Time)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Managing Director, People & Strategy

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Manager, Special Projects provides critical operational capacity to the Baltimore regional team, maximizing efficiency and accuracy around the region’s critical operations, knowledge management, and strategic priorities. This position provides a unique opportunity for individuals with superior critical thinking, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills to play a key role in driving the effectiveness of the region.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Operations (45%)

  • Manages internal operations work, including facilities operations, internal communications, budget/finance, legal & compliance, office administration, procurement, and vendor management

  • Supports the regional team in the implementation and maintenance of a knowledge management framework

  • Serve as regional data ambassador, ensuring information is technically accurate and consistently updated throughout TFA systems

  • Serve as liaison to Teach for America’s Finance team and support the regional team with critical finance operations, including budgeting, planning & forecasting to facilitate decision making and future strategies

  • Support regional operations, staff support, and systems in collaboration with the Managing Director, People & Strategy

  • Support operations for summer Pre-service for new corps members

  • Support planning and execution of logistics for corps members, alumni, and staff-facing events and meetings

Partnerships, Communications, & Special Projects (45%)

  • Design vision for communications, events, and other engagement strategies that foster community connectivity and strengthen alumni connections, including commemorative month events, and quarterly alumni newsletter

  • Support the corps member licensure program proposal submissions and reporting to the Maryland State Department of Education

  • Support the region’s 2030 goal strategy, including coalition building, talent matching, and data analysis related to early learning and college and career readiness

  • Lead governance and operations for the TFA Baltimore Alumni Council

  • Develop/update regional marketing collateral (one-pagers, presentation decks, meeting leave-behinds, update regional tfa.org pages, etc.)

  • Manage data systems to ensure accuracy of alumni employment information, residency, etc.

  • Maintain agile working habits that allow for the emergent needs for time-bound, specific projects that support regional goals and priorities

Internal Organizational Commitments (10%)

  • Participate in region- and organization-wide initiatives and events such as corps member interviews, board meetings, and other regional events

  • Thoughtful and ongoing engagement with opportunities for community & impact, learning and growth, applying those learnings into professional practices

  • Prepare for and engage in our performance development program

  • Uphold our data management, operational compliance, and fiscal responsibilities

  • Operate flexibly to lend skills and capacity to meet the needs of emerging projects or priorities as they arise

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):

  • 2–4 years of full-time professional experience in a mission-driven, community-based, or education-focused organization

  • Demonstrated track record of managing projects or initiatives with measurable outcomes

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments requiring independent decision-making and cross-functional collaboration

  • Led or contributed to projects with evolving goals and strategic direction

  • Managed timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communications with high attention to detail

  • Produced high-quality work under tight deadlines, both independently and in team settings

  • Applied knowledge of historical and contemporary inequities in the U.S., particularly in Baltimore, to inform programmatic or operational decisions

  • Engaged in ongoing learning about systemic inequalities and their impact on education and community outcomes

  • Maintained high standards of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and responsible resource management

Work Demands

  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend engagements

  • Ability to work on-site or attend in-person meetings within Baltimore as needed

  • Capable of lifting and transporting materials up to 30 lbs.

BONUS (preferred qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public policy, social sciences, or a related field

  • Prior experience working in Baltimore’s education ecosystem

  • Alumni of Teach for America (TFA), preferably with Baltimore corps experience

  • Familiarity with the TFA Baltimore network and its community partners

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost-of-labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on various job-related factors, including education, training, experience, location, business needs, and market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the minimum and the salary range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Salary Tier A: $55,700-$74,500
