ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Systems and Reporting

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the Managing Director of Systems and Reporting, you will set the vision and strategy for operational systems and data management, empowering frontline fundraisers to achieve their goals. You will lead a team responsible for optimizing systems, streamlining reporting, and ensuring data integrity to enhance fundraising effectiveness. Additionally, you will oversee team operations and support the professional development of systems and reporting staff. Your fundraising expertise, passion for developing client-centered resources, and technical aptitude—including a strong grasp of technology and enthusiasm for learning—will be key in driving staff adoption of our CRM. You will ensure alignment with data requirements and norms, strengthen development operations, and influence how and when fundraisers use data to inform decision-making and strategy. You will collaborate with the VP of Development Data & Operations to shape strategy and decision-making in systems learning, data operations, reporting, and data governance.

Beyond your leadership responsibilities, you will actively support frontline fundraisers by managing your own portfolio while ensuring that all Development staff receive exceptional customer service and support. The ideal candidate is a strategic, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. A proactive, solution-oriented mindset is essential for success in this role.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Manage the Systems and Reporting team (30%)

  • Create a clear and compelling short and long term vision for frontline fundraiser support that aligns with the Development team’s vision and strategic plan.

  • Collaborate with the VP of Development Data & Operations to shape strategy and decision-making in systems learning, data operations, reporting, and data governance.

  • Set clear priorities, goals, and benchmarks that you and your team will use to assess success and progress toward the team’s vision.

  • Identify and manage toward key milestones and deliverables that move us closer to the short and long term vision, responding to risks and issues, and monitoring the impact and progress.

  • Provide ongoing management, coaching, and development to your team of direct reports

  • Set the vision for and establish team culture focused on core values and achieving results.

Manage our proactive fundraiser support model (30%)

  • Oversee our proactive fundraiser support model.

  • Identify opportunities for training and system improvements for fundraisers.

  • Provide strategic guidance to the Directors of Systems and Reporting on frontline fundraiser support.

  • Align and coordinate the Directors of Systems and Reporting to drive success across all portfolios and improve efficiency.

  • Engage in continual learning in the areas of systems and reporting so that you can continue to expand our team's collective expertise in this area

  • Gather user insights to inform strategic direction and enhance the end-user experience.

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data management systems, tools, and reports.

  • Collaborate with the Director, Technology and VP, Development Data & Operations to implement CRM enhancements. If we migrate to a new CRM, this role will help to develop and manage the move into this new CRM

Manage your own portfolio (30%)

  • Ensure fundraisers have a foundational understanding of our CRM and our data requirements and norms.

  • Provide responsive coaching to improve fundraisers' data skills and teams' data-systems.

  • Promote and consult on using data as part of how we work and team operations.

  • Develop strategies to ensure adherence to development data policies for all fundraisers in your portfolio.

  • Highlight relevant tools and resources throughout the year, in alignment with Teach For America’s fundraising calendar

  • Consult on our current reports and tools to ensure they are being leveraged to improve data quality and drive fundraising efforts

  • Design and build custom reports and list views on our platform when necessary that present information in a way that maximizes insight and action

  • Provide data and/or insight into development progress and year-over-year performance to help drive team execution and strategies

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of what effective technology adoption looks like in TFA’s Development context

  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for support that come from your portfolio of fundraisers

Team Membership (10%)

  • Participate in regular team meetings both of the Fundraising Operations team and the larger Development Team.

  • Participate in group discussion and ongoing reflection about TFA's strategic narrative and our own team's strategy and culture

  • Demonstrate the core values and commitment to people, community, and opportunity for all

  • Engage in Elevate to drive performance and learning

  • Participate in special projects as aligned with interest and capacity

  • Participate in Corps Member interviews in partnership with the Admissions Team

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

As the Managing Director of Systems and Reporting, your week will be a dynamic mix of strategic leadership, problem-solving, and hands-on collaboration. You'll check in with direct reports, lead team meetings to align on priorities, and ensure progress toward systems and reporting goals, identifying opportunities for collaboration across the team. You'll dedicate time to coaching and supporting your team, providing guidance on data management strategies, and strengthening frontline fundraiser support through direct engagement and project work. Collaboration will be key, as you work with cross-functional teams and the VP of Development Data & Operations to shape strategy around data governance, system adoption, and process improvements. You’ll also manage your own portfolio of fundraisers, responding to ad-hoc data requests, refining reports, and troubleshooting system challenges to ensure fundraisers have accurate and actionable insights. Your support will help them navigate CRM best practices and leverage data-driven fundraising strategies.No two days will be the same, but every week will be an opportunity to drive efficiency, strengthen data-informed decision-making, and enhance the systems that support Teach For America’s mission.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 7+ years of prior related experience in operations, fundraising operations, or another applicable area; 1-3 of these years should include supervisory experience

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required and previous experience with Salesforce or other CRM

  • Experience with Business Objects, Power BI or other related reporting/visualization technology preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new data management technologies quickly

  • Data-informed approaches to decision making

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional client-service orientation

  • Ability to build strong partnerships with client and partner teams

  • Strong collaborative spirit that is apt in working with others while driving projects independently

  • Ability to effectively and consistently organize, prioritize, track, and manage workflow, goals, and resources and proven ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment

  • Exquisite attention to detail and organizational skills

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

The Managing Director, Systems and Reporting sits on the Central Development team. The Central Development team builds and strengthens Teach For America’s philanthropic partnerships by inspiring donors to invest in the future of our country by advancing TFA’s work with students nationally and regionally. The Central Development team has members located across the country. While there is limited travel involved in this role for team meetings, most interactions will be conducted virtually.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A: $84,800 - $109,300

Tier B: $92,400 - $119,100

Tier C: $100,100 - $129,000
