TEAM: CMALD - Leadership Development

REPORTS TO: SMD, Coaching Strategy

LOCATION: Flexible

APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 8th, 2025

THE ROLE:

The MD, Adaptive Impact Coach (MDAIC) plays a critical role in enabling continuity, stability, and high-quality coaching for Corps Members (CMs) during Managing Director, Leadership Development (MDLD) vacancies or leaves of absence. By maintaining clear communication, seamless coaching transitions, and alignment with core program components, Adaptive Impact Coaches uphold the integrity of our centralized approach operating with agility and remaining flexible to regional needs. Adaptive Impact Coaches play a vital role in promoting MDLD sustainability and wellness by ensuring consistent coverage, engaging in evergreen projects, such as CLASS reliability support, and providing additional mentorship and onboarding support for new MDLDs. During an MDLD coverage period, the MD, Adaptive Impact Coach will take on the key responsibilities necessary to support Corps Members. Adaptive Impact Coaches will be responsible for creating and following a project plan based on the coverage’s needs to align on priorities, timelines, and key milestones. Throughout the coverage, Adaptive Impact Coaches will share benchmark updates to ensure transparency and progress tracking. Given the nature of this role, Adaptive Impact Coaches must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The ideal candidate is both passionate about supporting corps members to achieve strong results with students and extremely flexible and nimble, getting energy from variable and frequently changing contexts. You have a systems-level understanding of the moving pieces and the critical thinking skills to help them navigate the ecosystem to maximize learning. You are excited by the prospect of gaining context and supporting corps members from regions across the entire organization. You are experienced with leadership coaching and are confident advising adults.

A WEEK IN THE LIFE:

Likely no two weeks in the Adaptive Impact Coach role will look exactly the same! Throughout the entire year, you’ll be working to deepen your internalization of our universal program model and TFA’s 2030 goal. As an AIC, you will steward your Corp Members (CM) through a gap in support from their assigned coach. This gap often brings moments of ambiguity, uncertainty, or transition for CMs, which you will navigate with a nuanced understanding of CM development, impactful relationship-building, and attunement to regional needs. As coverage requests come up, you will collaborate with regional and hub-based staff to develop coverage plans that meet the just-in-time needs of the region and CMs. As each coverage plan gets into full swing, you will usually:

  • Connect with each CM one-on-one to establish a coaching relationship and preview the work ahead

  • Monitor CM exit risks and support retention

  • Plan and conduct beginning-of-year, mid-year, or end-of-year coaching conversations

  • Complete virtual CLASS observations and debriefs to support CM growth

  • Leverage Better Lesson and Cultivate to drive CM effectiveness

  • Update progress on the coverage plan on a regular basis

  • At the end of the plan, facilitate a hand-off and knowledge transfer to the new or returning MDLD

Throughout these various workstreams, you’ll work in partnership with others in your CMs’ ecosystem of support to ensure the retention and development of your CMs. You’ll be engaging in meetings and collaborative work spaces with both members of CMALD and the Adaptive Impact team to prepare for and execute meaningful engagements for our CMs and other stakeholders throughout the year. While holding cohorts of CMs, you will also contribute to the Adaptive Impact team’s evergreen projects, such as by supporting new MDLD onboarding.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

In this role you will:

  • Set and execute regional coverage plans and teacher leadership coaching strategies aligned to the universal program model and informed by the localized needs and context of the region(s) you are supporting during an MDLD leave or vacancy.

  • Manage multiple priorities, prioritize effectively, and alternate fluidly between thinking about the big picture and executing on specific strategies

  • Provide regular impact updates and communication to your manager, SMDLDs, and RPOCs throughout the duration of the coverage plans you are executing

  • Cultivate the relationship and retention of CMs throughout the duration of the coverage timeline

  • Engage in and possibly lead various evergreen projects that support centralized programming such as: CLASS Reliability, MDLD PLCs, New MDLD Onboarding, Coaching Strategy

  • Support and strengthen strong school partnerships across all cohort placements to enhance CM support, development, and retention and to drive student impact.

  • Across all workstreams, develop metrics and goals to guide the work, monitor progress towards outcomes, and evolve the vision and strategy as necessary to account for new information and/or current results.
