We recruit and develop a diverse corps of outstanding leaders to commit two years to teach in high-need schools, working to ensure all students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Teach For America – Metro Atlanta (TFA-MATL) seeks a Managing Director, Alumni School Leadership to develop and execute an alumni strategy that works in service of the organization's ten-year goal through catalyzing alumni leadership with those that work in School Leadership as well as those alumni who aspire to school leadership. This includes holding relationships with all alumni in school/district leadership roles (AP and higher) and executing the School Leader Collaborative as well as the Academic School Leader Fellowship. In partnership with the Managing Director, Alumni Partnerships and Director, Alumni Recruitment- PBSA, this role will serve on the alumni functional team and report to the Senior Managing Director, Chief of Staff.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Alumni Leadership Development (60%)
Design and execute vision, goals, and strategy to implement the School Leader Collaborative. This includes informing design of the program for the 2024-2025 cohort with feedback from prior participants. In addition, you will be responsible for overall program design and facilitating sessions and learning experiences. In addition, this leader will be responsible for recruiting, selecting and following up with participants to ensure their participation in the program
Partner with the TFA Philadelphia to design and execute the vision, goals and strategies of the Academic School Leader Fellowship. This will include facilitating the in-person local learning experiences that will complement the virtual sessions hosted by the Director, School Leader Support & Development on the TFA Philly team.
Determine the metrics of impact that will measure the effectiveness of both cohort-based programs and be prepared to present that information to donors, board members, and school/district partners.
Strategic Partnerships (15%)
Identify key partnerships within our local and national ecosystem of education leadership to identify who can support the development of our local leaders
Develop partnerships with our school/district partners to determine leadership pathways within local districts to inform our alumni base on how to increase the number of TFA Metro Atlanta in key education leadership roles.
Alumni Engagement (15%)
Build relationships and connect with Metro Atlanta alumni who currently hold leadership positions within schools, districts and education-focused non-profits. This includes determining their assets, needs and opportunities for growth.
Maintain accurate records in TFACT (Salesforce Database) for all Metro Atlanta alumni who are in school-based or district leadership roles.
Connect key alumni leaders to TFA alumni programming opportunities including the Up Next initiative, virtual programming, the School Leaders of Color Conference and other national programming available to local alumni.
Support the alumni functional team to plan and execute alumni engagement opportunities.
Organizational & Regional Stewardship (10%)
Support, attend, and/or participate in regional & cross-team activities and campaigns, including staff meetings and events.
Serve on the Metro Atlanta Alumni functional team.
Participate in org-wide initiatives, including corps member matriculation and interviews
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the MD Alumni Leadership will be in alumni-led schools meeting with our alumni in leadership roles to build connection and determine strategy for how to move our region closer to our 2030 goal of doubling student achievement in 3rd grade reading and 8th grade math. They will be designing and/or delivering learning sessions and experiences for the two cohort-based leadership fellowships. These engagements could also include hosting school-based observations with the program participants. Depending on the time of year, this individual will join the Executive Director on key donor calls or advisory board meetings to update stakeholders on the impact of our programming. Finally, as a support to all cohort members, there could be the opportunity to visit a school for a coaching conversation with a leader about how to address key challenges in their leadership.
While this may vary week to week, day travel throughout the Metro Atlanta region is required for this role, as is occasional evening or weekend work. It is also expected that this staff member lives in the Metro Atlanta region and is able to travel to our Atlanta office at least weekly.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 in education-focused field.
Deep ties to and networks in the Metro Atlanta education ecosystem
Experience in school or district leadership in Metro Atlanta, resulting in deep understanding of how schools operate and how school leaders make decisions.
Experience designing and facilitating high-quality professional development focused on leadership development in an education setting.
Ability to manage others to effectively track tasks, assess progress, and follow through on the execution of plans through exemplary systems for managing across a team
Independent self-starter with a high degree of personal responsibility and capacity for self-managing to build structure and drive results around ambiguous workstreams
Experience in change management and in leading from ambiguity to clarity
Superb interpersonal skills and a strong “EQ,” with a proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire others to action through verbal and written communication
A collaborative style and robust experience in lateral collaboration
Experience in program design and execution
Ability to thrive in change, operate with optimism in hard times, and bring joy to hard work

Teach For America Metro Atlanta launched our teaching corps in 2000 and has since grown into a diverse community of over 170 corps members and 2,200 alumni working each day on behalf of children. We work to achieve systems level change in our schools and partner districts across Metro Atlanta, including a new partnership with Clarke County Schools in NE GA starting in the 2024-2025 school year. Our team operates with nuance and agility as we execute work across the Metro Atlanta and partner closely with our Program & Development Hubs, alongside other regions and central teams.
YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier A: $90,000-120,300
