ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Content and Grants

REPORTS TO: Rosie Minier Connor, VP, Enterprise Fundraising and Content

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Managing Director of Content will play a crucial role in setting the strategy and executing an approach to develop compelling language for use by development staff across TFA. This position focuses on creating high-quality written materials for a foundation, corporation, and individual donor audience across the organization to effectively communicate Teach For America’s mission, programs, and impact for fundraisers to use as they create external deliverables. To do this work, the MD, Content and Grants will be required to serve as an integration specialist, essential for developing compelling language that accurately reflects the TFAs work across program teams. In addition, this role will be responsible directly managing a Director, Copy Writing + Design, and working to set the strategy and vision for creating general external materials that can serve as a resource to all development staff (e.g., Growth pitch deck). The Managing Director will work closely with various teams within TFA to ensure all content aligns with the organization’s goals and values and manage a direct report focused on content design and copywriting.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Content and Grants (60%):

  • Set the vision and strategy for creating, updating, and disseminating grant language and content across Teach For America.

  • Work with various national program teams and regions to create compelling grant language and materials that effectively communicates TFA’s work across various teams and geographies for donor audiences.

  • Work with the Director, Donor Relations to create a strategy for the collection and dissemination of grant language, content, and materials for development staff to use.

  • Ensure all written materials are accurate, consistent, up-to-date, and aligned with TFA’s messaging and branding guidelines.

  • Utilize analytical thinking to gather and synthesize information from various sources, ensuring cross-team integration, accuracy, and coherence in all grant language.

  • Collaborate with the appropriate staff to create and maintain all knowledge management systems and processes.

  • Develop and maintain grant writing tools and resources for fundraisers to use as guides when completing deliverables for their donors.

Collaboration and Coordination (30%):

  • Work closely with regional and national teams to gather information and insights for grant language and written materials.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in our external grant language, leveraging critical and visionary thinking to align content with TFA’s strategic goals.

  • Collaborate with the External Affairs team to ensure all collateral and materials are aligned with TFAs brand and positioning.

  • Conduct research and engage with the TFA community to support the development of grant proposals and strategic content.

  • Utilize data and metrics to inform and improve content and grant writing strategies.

  • Lead and support projects as identified by Senior Leaders as needed

Team Management, Coaching, & Collaboration (10%)

  • Coach and develop direct reports in developing compelling materials and maintaining their perspective workflows such as design, knowledge management, and operational systems

  • Build, develop, and retain a strong team by fostering engagement and professional development

  • Experience in fundraising, especially in K-12 education

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in grant writing, content development, or a related field, with a proven track record of creating successful written materials.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, including analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of the education sector and experience with nonprofit organizations is highly desirable.

The Revenue and Development team at Teach For America inspires donors and champions to contribute to shaping the future of our country by investing in Teach For America’s work with students nationally and regionally. We aim to source investments that fuel our work and impact with a revenue growth trajectory to raise $300 million annually. This role will be part of our Central Fundraising team, which plays a major role in generating nearly $70 million in revenue but also serves as the center of excellence for fundraising at Teach For America.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A: $81,700-122,500

Tier B: $89,100-133,500

Tier C: $96,400-144,600
