ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Partnerships and Programs (Full time)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Tony Ashton, Executive Director, Idaho Region

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 11:59pm ET on August 14, 2024

LOCATION: Southwest Idaho (Boise Metro Area)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for a dynamic leader to take on four major priorities for TFA-Idaho:

  • Manage relationships with school and district partners

  • Lead our high-impact programs related to summer and extended learning

  • Measure and evaluate our overall strategy in a key advisory role to the Executive Director

  • Collaborate with colleagues across our network and add agile capacity to support team-wide initiatives

The ideal candidate has an intelligence for relationships with people at many levels and backgrounds. You will also have an instinct to introduce people to each other as you strengthen the connective tissue of educators across our state who share a goal for maximizing impact for students. You’ll have an enthusiasm to lead innovative programs from “idea” into “action”. And you will have a strategic eye for seeing the entire educational landscape, paired with a curiosity to find areas for TFA, in partnership with others, to make the maximum impact for students.

As the Managing Director of Partnerships and Strategy, you will lead some of our newest initiatives. One example is inspired by our 2030 goal to double the number of students across Idaho who move into promising educational or career paths after high school. To make an impact this big, we aim to sit down with our school partners to set shared goals for all students at their schools - not just those taught by TFA teachers. We’re starting small with 1-3 schools, with plans to expand this based on what we learn. This is a great example of a project you will drive from “idea” into “implementation and measurement”. The goal of this role is to serve as a leader of tangible, high-impact programs while keeping a strategic eye on the measurement, evaluation and future direction of our organization. Someone who thrives in this role would be a strong future candidate for Executive Director positions at TFA or other impact-driven organizations.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Build and nurture relationships with the school and district partners who are critical to achieving our goals.

  • Design and implement a system for evaluating progress towards student outcomes with the partner schools that share our goal to double the number of students reaching key educational milestones by 2030.

  • Design and run high-impact programs in collaboration with school and community partners. One example of this is TFA’s Learning Lab, which is increasing the access and quality of summer learning for students in Idaho.

  • Create and manage talent systems to improve the hiring process and timeline with schools and districts. We’re part of an organization that has measured the effectiveness of its hiring process for 30 years, and can share what we’ve learned with our partners here in Idaho.

  • Serve as a quarterback to the ED: The Managing Director will help the ED evaluate the overall success of TFA-Idaho’s strategy by measuring progress and synthesizing trends they see. In a sense, this person will have their eyes on the whole program.

  • Support the development and execution of TFA Idaho’s next three-year strategic plan that will evaluate TFA Idaho’s impact and contributions over the past 10 years and outline the strategies, priories, and measures that will guide our work to maximize student impact.

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

Over the course of any week, the Managing Director, Partnerships and Strategy will spend time engaging with a range of different stakeholders both internal and external to Teach For America as your work will be highly collaborative and interconnected to the programs that we offer. While you will be responsive to the reality of our school partners’ schedules, you will have a lot of flexibility around how you structure your day. A typical day might consist of spending the morning synthesizing information to guide our talent strategy, spending time during the day meeting partners in school buildings, and closing out your day debriefing with a staff member working in another TFA region before closing out your day and responding to any remaining emails or Slack messages.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 7 years of related experience and a record of results in the following areas:

    • Led a program and using data to evaluate its effectiveness

    • Built strategic relationships with a range of people across lines of difference

    • Managed complex projects with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities

    • Worked across a team to solve problems

  • Willingness to work occasional weekend or evening work hours required as well as the ability to travel daily across Southwest Idaho and once a quarter across the state or country.

BONUS (preferred qualifications)

  • Working in schools and with school leaders

  • Familiarity with educational data

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

You will join six smart, hardworking and kind team members who recruit our participants, coach them during their two-year teaching commitment, support leadership pathways for participants after they complete our program, and lead our fundraising strategy, respectively. We have a range of 2-10 years of experience working on the team. The team is highly collaborative and we often support each other’s projects. This is by design. The organization recently shifted from a highly vertical structure to a flatter, helix management model. In addition to working together on overlapping projects, we also have a high level of communication with our national organization. While we come from a variety of backgrounds, one trait all share is a focus on impact, and a willingness to try new things to maximize opportunities for Idaho’s students.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role is $90,000-120,300. This range may be modified in the future.
