ROLE TITLE: Director, Copy (Full Time)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for a talented writer, adept at both long- and short-form copywriting, to give voice to Teach For America’s brand across web, email, advertising, and other mediums.

The ideal candidate is highly creative, inquisitive about and responsive to data, and has experience writing for sales and/or growth funnels. Additionally, the strongest candidates will be knowledgeable in SEO and have experience writing for Gen Z audiences.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Content Marketing and Copywriting (90%)

  • Influence and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across External Affairs and from Brand and Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions, Development, and others to generate compelling content to targeted personas throughout the audience lifecycle

  • Work across channels to create compelling content that reaches our audiences where they are including: email, digital ads, video, web, and other demand-focused channels

  • Partner with Marketing Operations to A/B test content messaging and format, and optimize writing based on insights

  • Collaborate with the design team to ensure visual and written expressions of the brand are working in harmony and representative of our brand standards

  • Seek, respond to, and learn from feedback from reviewers and others with key knowledge of our brand and audiences

Editorial (10%)

  • Curiously and continuously seek out leads that elevate and illuminate our network’s stories of impact, and pitch ideas to your team

  • Edit and/or proofread peers’ content if/when requested to

  • Perform other editorial tasks as needed, which could include updating older pieces of web content or inputting content into our content management system

A WEEK IN THE LIFE

Over the course of any week, the Director, Copy may spend time:

  • Writing copy for a nurture email series

  • Conducting virtual interviews with a corps member whose story of impact you’re writing for our website

  • Participating in a team review of growth funnel data and ideation around how to optimize content on landing pages

  • Brainstorming with team members around ideas for engagement tactics

  • Partnering with the digital marketing team to analyze SEO opportunities, write content, and make updates directly in the content management system

YOUR EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a copywriter

  • Experience in advertising, marketing, or related field

  • A strong portfolio of work, with demonstrable objectives and results

  • Strong initiative, with the ability to make independent decisions rooted in strategy and data

  • Openness to feedback and growth; an ability to work across lines of difference and effectively convey points of view

  • Ability to represent and present your work and tie your choice to data and strategy

  • Demonstrated experience working with digital marketers, designers, and other marketing functions

  • Demonstrated experience writing for sales and/or growth funnels

  • Exceptional time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines across multiple projects from multiple requesters

  • Demonstrated experience working in content management systems

BONUS

  • Demonstrated understanding of SEO and experience writing content for SEO campaigns

  • A background in education, social justice, or related fields

  • Experience writing for Gen Z audiences

  • Experience with Figma

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

The Brand and Marketing team develops Teach For America’s brand identity, steers its creative execution, and promotes the brand and TFA programs to target audiences through integrated campaigns.

YOUR COMPENSATION

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A: $67,500 - $101,100

Tier B: $73,600 - $110,200

Tier C: $79,700 - $119,300
