WHAT YOU’LL DO
We are looking for a Director, Grant Accounting to support and execute an efficient, accurate and compliant process to allocate expenses to grant funding across the organization. You will have a direct impact on the success of our mission by helping to maximize government and private grant opportunities, and protecting Teach For America’s fiscal health and reputation along the way. We are looking for someone who is systems-oriented, exhibits strong technical accounting and financial analysis skills, and is highly adaptable to changing needs of the team and organization. You will play a key role in the design and maintenance of grant tagging systems, while working across multiple Finance sub-teams, including Financial Planning & Analysis, Purchasing, Revenue and Disbursements. The ideal candidate for this role obsesses about the details, while understanding nuance and maintaining flexibility.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Grant Accounting and Management (100%)
Liaise with Managing Director, Financial Planning & Analysis colleagues to understand grant budgets and support with Workday accounting
Maintain processes and support grant managers in tagging centrally managed NPS costs (i.e. rent and nationally invoiced suppliers)
Analyze grant spending, complete retro-tagging and grant adjustments, and course correct where necessary to enable compliant, efficient drawdown
Complete reconciliations, invoicing and reporting necessary for grant drawdown and close-out
Develop trainings and manage processes related to execution of org-wide effort certification process and other key grant administration activities
Prepare responses to fiscal surveys, grant-specific audits, single and financial statement audit requests
Conduct periodic internal audits to monitor compliance of grant-tagged transactions
Complete quarterly non-payroll grants reconciliation, including fringe, IDC and fee-based ledger accounts
Prepare Grant related balance sheet account reconciliations
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the Director, Grant Accounting will spend time:
Meeting with FP&A colleagues to intake new grants and/or amendments to existing grants,
Using Workday reports and internally-developed tools to analyze spending across all managed grants and identify areas for correction,
Responding to inquiries grantors and auditors,
Launching quarterly effort certification and ensuring all approvals are completed timely,
Ensuring grant related revenue and expenses are properly coded to the GL and reconciled to budgets
Ad hoc projects
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting/finance related field
Relevant experience working in Workday Financials
Prior experience working with grants at TFA highly preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting preferred
Work Demands

The Finance team truly keeps the lights on at Teach For America. We oversee all financial matters at the Organization, from Accounting to Planning & Analysis. Our General Accounting team is responsible for the timely and accurate coding of all financial transactions in the General Ledger, including revenue, cash, investments, and grants. Our work is everywhere, but we feel most successful when we operate so seamlessly that others never know we’re there — keeping the wheels turning so our teammates across the country can focus on expanding opportunity for kids and communities.
YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier A: $74,300 - $111,300
Tier B: $81,000 - $121,300
Tier C: $87,700 - $131,300
