REPORTS TO: Rachel Lange - Managing Director, Chief of Staff
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (In-Person Required)
THE ROLE
The Manager, Operations and Recruitment role is critical to ensuring we provide high quality communication, events and experiences for our constituents. This role is responsible for providing operational support for events and managing mass communication across the region, including the management of social media. Additionally, they will support our local recruitment efforts (for corps program and Ignite Fellowship) and track constituent-specific data throughout the year.
As TFA D.C. and Virginia aims to recruit and admit more “homegrown” corps members of color, the person in this role will play a critical role in building relationships with local universities (i.e., University of the District of Columbia) that support future teachers. This person will help to create a pipeline program for students in UDC’s Early Childhood Education Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
This role provides a unique opportunity for an individual with strong skills in project management, relationship-building, event planning, and communications.
THE PERSON
Operational Support in Communications and Events (50%)
Serve as a liaison to TFA’s central teams and steward information back to the region necessary for mass communications.
Manage mass communications to ICMs & CMs about action items, programs, support and opportunities (i.e. monthly newsletters, social media outlets); and support the Director, Alumni and Network Engagement in alumni communications.
Serve as the point of contact for locally hired media (photography, videography); refine system for storing region-wide media (i.e. Google Drive, OneDrive).
Be the principal designer and operator of the region’s social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. This includes posting updates about events, highlighting alumni/corps members thematically (i.e., Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Teacher Appreciation, LGBTQ Pride Month), posting relevant articles or accolades for the region, and advertising programs/jobs.
Readily research and source local stories or highlights to include in our social media, including spotlights of alumni/corps members and partner schools.
Provide operational support for virtual and in-person events across the region (I/CM, Alumni, Staff) including: Corps Member events (Preservice, All Corps), Alumni events (VIP Dinners), CVA events (Annual Party), and Staff events (Retreats).
Serve as a point of contact for incoming corps members to answer questions about the region, pre-service/practicum, and assist with meeting certification requirements and background checks.
Support the SMD, Chief of Virginia Affairs in planning and executing major events taking place in Central Virginia (Richmond, VA) 2-3 times per year, including being present to help run such events in Central Virginia.
Program Recruitment & Data (35%)
Lean heavily into the selection process for Corps Members and Ignite Fellows, with strong participation at every “deadline” of TFA’s application.
Liaise with the national recruitment team and TFA-local recruiters to plan and execute ICM regional recruitment efforts to increase “homegrown” talent efforts.
Serve as the point of contact for potential network partners, such as UDC. Partner with the Chief Program Officer to develop a plan to deepen their knowledge of the TFA mission and reinforce their commitment to the movement for educational equity in the D.C. and Virginia.
Plan and execute events/dinners for college students who are prospective applicants for TFA D.C. and Virginia. Manage supports for targeted students (i.e., test prep, certification costs).
Assist in the recruitment of alumni into the Ignite Fellowship to serve in DCPS locations, especially connected to our Community of Support School Model.
Manage and refine data systems to track and/or report constituent data throughout the year (ICMs, Alumni). This includes but not limited to I/CM certification, Alumni TFACT data, Alumni engagement trends/attendance, etc.
Establish cadence/structure to check in with subsequent functional team(s) during each project window.
Regional Commitments and Responsibilities (15%)
Demonstrate strong alignment to core values, commitment to DEI and anti-racist leadership, and cultivating inclusive, high-performing results as a regional team member.
Provide in-person operational support to region-specific anchor moments for corps member initiatives and events such as Pre-Service/Practicum and in-person Summits.
Full participation in national team activities, including annual meetings, selection, national DEI training, and other required events and activities.
Full participation in regional team activities, staff meetings, development events, functional team meetings and retreats, and preservice.
Full participation in functional team activities such as manager/direct report check-ins and team meetings.
THE MUST HAVES
Demonstrated Experience
3+ years of work experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience with data and knowledge management systems
Strong communication skills and project management skills for multiple projects
Teach For America alumni preferred
Work Demands
This role requires attendance at evening events several times quarterly
This role may require travel to Central Virginia several times throughout the year (with travel/board covered by the region)

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
