REPORTS TO: Robin Durrante - Senior Managing Director, Chief Program Officer
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (In-Person Required)
THE ROLE
The Director, Alumni and Network Engagement role is critical to helping strengthen our alumni impact and network engagement in Washington, D.C. and Virginia by understanding who our alumni are and where they are in their career journeys. This role is responsible for alumni and network events, both small (i.e., 1-on-1 meetings; VIP Events) and large (i.e., Annual Holiday Party; Alumni Induction). Additionally, this role involves managing key initiatives related to unique programming to support our alumni educators and school leaders, such as through local fellowships and scholarship programs. This work is vital to ensure that central TFA and the DCVA team can develop alumni capabilities, meet their needs in alignment with our mission, and ultimately maximize their impact in building equitable communities in service of our 2030 goal.
This role provides a unique opportunity for an individual contributor with strong skills in project management, relationship-building, event planning, communications, and budget management.
THE PERSON
Alumni Engagement and Event Planning (70%)
Lead the operations, planning, and execution of region-wide network events such as the D.C. alumni induction ceremony, annual educator appreciation events, biannual “eats & greets,” at least 6 smaller VIP alumni networking events, and our annual holiday party.
Support the SMD, Chief of Virginia Affairs in planning and executing major events taking place in Central Virginia (Richmond, VA) 2-3 times per year, including being present to help run such events in Central Virginia.
Manage our local fellowship program for alumni educators (i.e., the Green Fellowship) in both D.C. and Virginia, which includes opening/closing events, quarterly VIP dinners with local leaders, a partnership with School Leader Lab, and December classroom supply grants.
Serve as the primary regional alumni point of contact by engaging 1-on-1 with alumni weekly (virtual or in-person) to build relationships, share national or local career support, provide professional development opportunities, and encourage regional involvement.
Serve as the primary regional point of contact for our LEE partnership initiatives.
Assist in the planning and execution of alumni-led dinners for new corps members (pre-service) and for serving corps members periodically during the school year.
Lead and manage our Alumni Facilitator Program in partnership with MD,LDs to provide opportunities for alumni to lead sessions during Saturday All-Corps Summits and/or as classroom mentors throughout the year.
Lead and manage the facilitation and operations behind Alumni Instructional Rounds in which alumni school leaders/teachers offer their spaces for observation for novice/struggling teachers.
Lead and manage the budget of our Alumni Grant Program, which represents a $50,000 investment to support alumni in pursuing leadership programming such as conferences, School Leaders of Color, School Leader Lab, New Leaders, and Cambiar.
Serve as the primary staff sponsor for regional alumni leadership boards, including The Bridge, The Collective, and Prism, including attending meetings, events, and supporting budget needs.
Support DCVA in recruiting strong alumni educators into teaching and leadership positions in the region, including consistently finding open, high-impact roles (especially linked to our 2030 goal) and matching those roles to high-performing alumni.
Alumni Communications and Data Management (15%)
With the Manager, Operations and Recruitment, set vision, direction, and execution of a strong marketing and communications plan to invest, engage, and inform our DCVA network on events and opportunities using effective and engaging digital communication strategies through use of platforms such as Squarespace, Instagram, LinkedIn, Salesforce, Canva, etc.
Create and disseminate monthly regional alumni newsletters using Salesforce Marketing Cloud. This includes independently creating and disseminating a monthly newsletter for the DC-Northern Virginia area and collaborating with the SMD, Chief of Virginia Affairs in creating and disseminating a monthly newsletter for Central Virginia.
Develop and execute a system to regularly review, update, and monitor alumni employment data in the TFACT data system, and support national and regional alumni data campaigns.
Support alumni network planning by regularly tracking and reporting alumni engagement trends and attendance data.
Manage external communication efforts to DC-VA alumni related to up-to-date records and regional alumni events.
Regional Commitments and Responsibilities (15%)
Demonstrate strong alignment to core values, commitment to DEI and anti-racist leadership, and cultivating inclusive, high-performing results as a regional team member.
Provide in-person operational support to region-specific anchor moments for corps member initiatives and events such as Pre-Service/Practicum and in-person Summits.
Full participation in national team activities, including annual meetings, selection, national DEI training, and other required events and activities.
Full participation in regional team activities, staff meetings, development events, functional team meetings and retreats, and Pre-Service.
Full participation in functional team activities such as manager/direct report check-ins and program team meetings.
THE MUST HAVES
Demonstrated Experience
4+ years of work experience
Former event/operations planning experience required
Strong communication skills and project management skills for multiple projects
Former teaching experience required
Bachelor’s degree required. Masters Degree in education or a related field preferred
Previous experience on Teach For America staff preferred
Teach For America alumni preferred
Work Demands
Frequent travel to individual and community meetings
This role requires attendance at evening meetings, professional development, and/or regional events several times quarterly
This role requires travel to Central Virginia several times a year (with travel/board covered by the region)
This Director may travel independently to multiple sites throughout the day. These may be significant distances from one another and must be able to navigate school facilities that may or may not be ADA-compliant
Ability to travel independently to multiple locations for work during program event-planning and execution (including Pre-Service) that may be significant distances from one another and store/bring items to those locations

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
