WHAT YOU’LL DO
Teach for America Florida is looking for an experienced, executive-level leader passionate about ensuring all students in Florida have access to an excellent education. The Senior Managing Director, Institutional Advancement will advise senior team leaders on strategic direction, lead out on team talent development and performance management, maximize synergies and support projects across the team and with the broader organization, develop and nurture key external partnerships and ensure efficiency and accuracy around the state’s critical finance, operations, communications, and administrative needs.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the job with the ability to pay extreme attention to details, anticipate problems, work collaboratively, and set and maintain a high bar for excellence for the entire team. You are an organized, natural self-starter with a strong orientation to culture, systems-level thinking, team management, and team-wide operations. You bring strong political acumen and emotional intelligence and leverage those skills both within and outside of the organization in order to ensure TFA Florida Regions are meeting the demands of a complex and dynamic landscape.
The goal of this role is to maximize our statewide operation’s effectiveness, set and hold the full team to high expectations, and oversee critical organizational capabilities, including operations, finance, communications, partnerships, and advisory board management.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Strategic Leadership
Drive the process for statewide vision setting, strategic planning, talent planning, data analysis, advisory board management, coalition building, and financial budgeting processes to push forward Teach For America’s statewide vision and lead to an enduring institution
Identify and maximize cross-team synergies and opportunities for collaboration within the team and the broader organization, leading out on our statewide team focus on working together to achieve team-wide outcomes
Team Leadership
Act as the chief of the statewide leadership teams to influence decisions aligned to our statewide impact, set quarterly priorities, identify statewide risks and opportunities, and strengthen the overall team
Operate as a cultural leader by creating a strong team culture rooted in our core values and reflective of our commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and equity
Multi-Functional Direction & Execution
Set the vision and bar for excellence for office operations, financial reporting, compliance, program operations, knowledge management, data, communications & marketing, public relations, government affairs, and impact and progress monitoring functions
Work closely with the Senior Managing Director, Programs & Impact to ensure synergy across the program experience
Collaborate with the national Development, Institutional Advancement, Operations, and Capability teams to further our region’s impact
External Relations
Interface with stakeholders to advance our child-centered advocacy agenda, represent Teach For America at meetings and events, and serve on additional strategic boards, counsels, etc., as determined
Agile Teamwork
Operate with flexibility to support the team as needed and complete other duties as assigned
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the Senior Managing Director, Institutional Advancement will spend time:
Serving as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Director, including preparing them for internal and external engagements and leading and supporting other members of the Leadership Team
Managing a dynamic team of four individuals to execute with fidelity and strategy on key operations, public affairs, communications, advisory board management, and coalition-building work streams
Progress monitoring all goals and compliance processes to ensure the region is on track to living out our vision while remaining good stewards of our monetary, human capital, and social capital resources
Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to further Teach For America Florida’s work
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
At least seven years of experience as an educational and/or executive leader with at least two years of experience leading teams
Significant experience setting vision and managing others to reach ambitious goals
Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with diverse internal and external collaborators and support them in contributing to a shared goal
Outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
Able to speak to and model our core values and commitment to racial equity and belonging
Track record of getting results while leading multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
BONUS (preferred qualifications)
Strong existing knowledge of Teach For America’s current strategic direction and the education and political landscape in Florida
Teach For America corps member and/or staff experience
History of engagement and involvement with Teach For America programs, events, and opportunities
Understanding of the local education system, specifically how schools and districts operate and their structure

To get there, we are focused on leveraging strategic partnerships, fostering public will, developing and finding leaders, and expanding current thinking on education and its purpose. The Florida landscape is broad and diverse - our team operates with agility and nuance as we execute work across the state in our three geographies: Central Florida, Jacksonville, and Miami-Dade. The Programs and Impact team works closely with the Operations and Capabilities team and central Teach For America teams, including the Recruitment and Ignite teams and other regions.
YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier A: $108,900 - $163,300
