About the IPIE
The Swiss-based International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) is an independent and global science organization providing scientific knowledge about the health of the world’s information environment. Based in Switzerland, the IPIE offers policymakers, industry, and civil society actionable scientific assessments about threats to the information environment, including AI bias, algorithmic manipulation, and disinformation. The IPIE is the only scientific body systematically organizing, evaluating, and elevating research with the broad aim of improving the global information environment. Hundreds of researchers worldwide contribute to the IPIE’s reports.
We are seeking to recruit an outstanding candidate for the role of:
Communications and Events Officer
The IPIE Communications and Events Officer will lead the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies and event management plans to enhance the visibility and engagement of the International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) with stakeholders. This role is pivotal in advocating for IPIE’s mission, ensuring consistent and effective messaging across all platforms, and orchestrating events that align with organizational objectives.
The ideal candidate will have experience in public relations, media production, and events coordination, and will implement the IPIE’s communications and events plans, as well as oversee subcontractors who undertake such work. Experience in a mission driven, multilingual, and international organization within the non-profit sector is expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
Media Relations and Event Planning
- Act as the primary media contact for the IPIE, cultivating and maintaining relationships with media outlets to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information, and facilitating contact between media and the IPIE’s scientific panels and affiliates;
- Coordinate media briefings, press releases, newsletters, and responses to media inquiries;
- Plan, coordinate, and execute internal and external events, including briefings for media, policymakers, meetings of scientific panels, IPIE Board meetings, both in-person and virtual, and the in-person IPIE Conference of the Panels planned for New York in 2025 and Lagos, Nigeria in 2026;
- Oversee post-campaign and event evaluations to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
Content Creation and Management
- Create high-quality content across various platforms, ensuring consistency in messaging and alignment with organizational objectives, including LinkedIn, BlueSky, our website news alerts and announcements, and our affiliate newsletters;
- Assist in the development and writing of public statements, commentary essays, and other forms of disseminating the IPIE’s scientific outputs;
- Manage the development of publications, reports, and promotional materials.
Strategic Communication Development
- Support the Executive Director to formulate and implement internal and external communication policies to promote the IPIE’s mission;
- Oversee specialized communications and events subcontractors providing services such as city-specific event logistics, language translation services, copyediting, content production, design, and communications campaign work;
- To ensure that an accurate and current record of communications and events contacts and activities are maintained in the IPIE Salesforce database;
- Monitor and analyze the political, humanitarian, and informational landscape to adapt communication strategies accordingly.
Candidate Criteria
- University degree in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, or other relevant area;
- Several years of professional experience in operational roles in communication, PR and events planning and production for in-person and virtual events;
- Familiarity with international English varieties, and fluency in other UN languages a plus;
- Strong international experience, preferably among international organizations, public science bodies, the higher education sector, non-profit organizations, or related in related sectors;
- Experience with CRM systems, and experience with Salesforce a plus;
- Familiarity with international technology policy debates is a plus;
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders;
- Strong problem-solving skills with a creative, proactive, and adaptable approach.
