ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews is seeking a full-time Project Manager based in the UK or Kenya to lead the implementation of a regional project in the MENA region, that aims at enhancing the resilience, sustainability, and business viability of independent media outlets in the MENA region.

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing program strategy, coordinating with regional partners, ensuring the successful delivery of tailored capacity-building activities, and maintaining close engagement with media outlets. This role requires expertise in media development, disinformation counter-strategies, and organizational capacity building. The Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project, making sure the work is on track with the work plan, coordinating with local partners, organizing timely completion of high-quality deliverables and drafting regular project reports.

The Project Manager will work with activity-specific consultants and trainers along with personnel from local partners to ensure successful project implementation. The Project Manager reports to the MENA Program Manager and will closely coordinate with the MENA Regional Director and the MENA Monitoring & Evaluation Manager. The Project Manager will also work closely with several teams at Internews headquarters in Washington D.C. and Arcata, CA, which provide high-level technical advice, ensure compliance with Internews and donor policies and regulations, and offer back-stopping support.

This role is remote and may be based in either the United Kingdom or Nairobi, Kenya.

This is a limited duration position, with an expected end date of December 2025

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Plan, lead, and conduct regular monitoring of project activities to ensure project objectives are being met.
  • Prepare monthly reports on the project’s execution.
  • Foster collaboration and networking between media outlets and stakeholders across the region, supporting regional cooperation.
  • Ensure robust project monitoring, reporting, and evaluation mechanisms are in place to track the project’s progress and impact.
  • Engage with local stakeholders, media practitioners, and external partners to ensure the program remains responsive to on-the-ground needs.
  • Coordinate with MENA leadership & HQ Security to manage and mitigate potential risks related to safety and security of project participants, particularly in sensitive areas.
  • Monitor and oversee workplan implementation.
  • Manage the work of project consultants.
  • Coordinate with local partners and project beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate with Finance & Accounting team to oversee distribution of small grants.
  • Attend and assist in facilitation of project trainings.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings as requested.
  • Oversee the project budget, ensuring all financial resources are allocated and spent in alignment with the project’s goals and donor requirements.
  • Attend Budget versus Actual (BvA)meetings with Finance & Business teams and ensure that all actual costs and projections related to the project are correctly entered and maintained in the budget.
  • Manage subgrantee agreements and maintain compliance with donor regulations.
  • Stay informed and share updates about political developments relevant for project context.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management in media development or journalism-related programs.
  • University degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic languages (speaking, understanding, and writing).
  • Proven experience with capacity building, media sustainability strategies, and disinformation counter-strategies.
  • Strong understanding of media landscapes in the MENA region, with knowledge of regional disinformation trends.
  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working with international organizations and coordinating with local partners.
  • Excellent communication and strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and problem-solve in a multicultural, remote work environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust working hours as needed to accommodate periodic shifts in workload and colleagues in different time zones.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, reliability, and good time management skills.
  • Ability to work well with others, meet deadlines, and respond to changes in priorities.
