Global Head of Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

At Street Business School (SBS), we’re not just another nonprofit organization. We are catalysts for change, empowering women around the world through our groundbreaking entrepreneurial training. Our proven methods have doubled incomes and lifted families out of poverty with dignity. With a global reach spanning 35 countries and over 280 partners, we’re making a real difference in lives, families and communities.

We believe in the power of every individual to succeed through their own hard work. We provide opportunity, not charity. As coaches, we guide individuals to recognize and harness their innate power. Through our model, we empower local leaders to create a ripple effect of impact and drive social change on a global scale.

What you will do for us:

As the Global Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning you will design and deliver activities to answer Street Business School’s priority learning questions.

You will lead the agenda on how impact gets measured by SBS, and on how SBS influences the global conversation on the impact of micro-entrepreneurship on poverty alleviation. Capturing income impact data accurately is a challenge that has some of the best minds globally working on it and SBS’ work puts it front and center. We are also keen to grow how we measure impact beyond income and business ownership and MEL is a key area of investment for us – generating the insights and evidence that will influence investment in micro-entrepreneurship.

“We never stop learning” is one of our core values, and this role is pivotal in supporting SBS to generate knowledge and collateral regarding how our programs are working on the ground, and pivotal in ensuring that we make data-driven decisions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Insight generation

· Lead the design of and support the implementation of a comprehensive monitoring, evaluation and learning plan for SBS. This plan will establish a common framework for indicators, data collection and reporting across all the programs and partners with which SBS works to deliver impact.

· Design, source and lead the management of evaluations commissioned to independent evaluators; track and manage timelines and budgets for evaluation studies

MEL methodologies and systems

· Establish and implement data quality and database management protocols, systems, standardized reports and dashboards

· Provide and apply expertise on research methods and tools to ensure SBS is ahead of the curve on how to collect, analyze and represent impact data as relevant to the work we do

· Provide high-quality technical support to country/program teams on evaluation methodologies and MEL frameworks, in line with donor requirements

Collaborating with other departments

· Provide advisory support to internal teams, including designing MEL frameworks, theories of change and evaluation methodologies for new and existing projects, quality assurance of data collection and analysis, leading on technical proposals and bids

· Collaborate with the Business Development Team to deliver high-quality MEL plans and reports for our donor-funded programs

Influencing the conversation

· Ensure that insights and analysis are audience-relevant, accurate, professionally presented and rigorous, as this is a critical element of how evidence will be used to establish SBS as a technical expert in the area of micro-entrepreneurship

· Synthesize findings and recommendations from different evaluations and research/learning activities to inform SBS programming and strategic directions

· Collaborate on the development and timely delivery of different learning products, ensuring that evidence is fed into relevant teams internally, as well as shared with external stakeholders

· Draft papers and data visualization for conferences, donor meetings, media opportunities, senior management briefing notes etc.

Supervisory responsibilities

· To be determined

Note: The essential functions listed in this section are not exhaustive of the job responsibilities; other duties may be assigned consistent with the department needs. Likewise, the successful candidate may not be required to work across all areas listed, as the portfolio will depend on the needs of the team at the time of appointment.

Must Haves:

· Over 8 years of proven success in data monitoring, reporting, oversight, research and meaningful data presentation in international development contexts, ideally related to entrepreneurship

· A high level of proficiency with Excel Stata, SAS or relational databases. Power BI, Taroworks and Salesforce, are a plus

· Successful execution of a fair share of data cleaning, manipulation and analysis. A recognition that when it comes to data, 70% is data prep and 30% is design, analytics and visualization

· Strong technical skills – proven development, refinement and troubleshooting of data collection, database management, quality control and use of common reporting tools

· High ethical standards and integrity in managing monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring robust methodologies that are fit-for-purpose, credible, reproducible and transparent

· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, as well as the ability to assimilate and process information for wide-ranging audiences

Highly Desirable:

· An advanced degree in a relevant academic discipline, such as Development, Economics or Statistics

· Proficiency in project management techniques to coordinate and oversee processes efficiently. This involves planning, scheduling, resource allocation and risk management.

· Proven ability to work autonomously with a high level of personal effectiveness

· Team management experience to direct, mentor and oversee members of the MEL team (as recruited)

· Commitment to personal ongoing learning and improvement in monitoring, evaluation and learning, staying updated on industry developments and emerging trends

Compensation:
This is a full-time position anticipated to be 35-40 work hours per week with an estimated salary range for US-based employees of USD $70,000 – $90,000 annually, depending on experience and location. US employees are eligible to participate in healthcare and retirement savings plans as well as other benefits, including flexibility for remote work and paid time off, with an organization-wide holiday closure. For candidates outside the US, we offer market-competitive compensation based on your region, which we will discuss during the initial phases of the interview process.
