Position Overview:

The Communications and External Event Coordinator position is the front line to CEF’s social media presence and funder and donor relations. This position in collaboration with the Development Manager and Executive Director, will establish, plan and implement a communications strategy in keeping with our advocacy initiatives and voice as an organization. This position will also be responsible for some donor tasks such as thank you letters, donor relations, in person funder visits and fundraising event planning that complements CEF’s development strategy.

Position Responsibilities:

Develop and Maintain CEF’s external communications strategy and presence 50%

Create and manage a communications calendar for external communications (including to wider CEF network and donors)
Develop written content for all external ephemera including donor-facing communications, monthly e-newsletters, and the Annual Report
Work with program staff and volunteer Advocates to produce regular social media and blog posts (3-4/wk) highlighting relevant local stories and programs, Member stories, staff stories, updates to CEF programs, and fundraising campaigns
Maintain CEF’s website
Manage the monthly thank-you process–matching donations in Salesforce, including generating donor list, completing mail merge, and writing messages to each donor. Also responsible for mailing
Work with program staff to implement and design newsletters for each office that are distributed digitally and on paper for members to know CEF’s going ons
Individual donors – major gifts, events, mailing campaigns 40%

Plan CEF’s annual event, The Piggy Bank Bash, including cultivating sponsors, finding a venue, outreach, ticket sales, etc.
Manage and implement individual donor mailing campaigns (2x/year) in conjunction with Development Manager
Coordinate team efforts and engage actively in individual donor development, including ongoing communication, gift acknowledgments, and relational connections
Plan & organize “friend-raising” events including the annual Share the Love: Art Show and Alumni Advocate reunions
Participate and assist with community building events-Advocacy Marches , Fashion Show, Black Queens event
Manage development systems and processes, including maintaining donor database (Salesforce) and managing the creation of the Annual Report
Lead and coordinate CEF staff, volunteers, and board members engaged in development, including supervision of volunteer Advocate leaders and working with Board Development Committee
CEF Team Member 10%

Actively participate in CEF staff meetings, caucuses, retreats, board meetings, and organizational decision- making.
Actively participate in geo-specific staff meetings in Durham(Posse) and Chapel Hill(Crew)
Fill in as staff support or advocate support when needed
Supervise two communications interns and their projects every summer
Supervise an advocate communications leadership position
Support Development Manager with tasks
Position Qualifications (Required unless indicated as “preferred”):

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Experience with project management and coordinating a team, including volunteers
Experience with social media and communication platforms
Some database experience preferred
Experience with Google suite
Preferred understanding of racial equity, trauma informed care, Housing First
Ethical storytelling experience preferred
An ideal candidate will have:

Whole person, healing centered approach to working with people and telling stories
Commitment to CEF’s mission and work
Two years of work experience in some communications field or relevant experience
Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, salaried position. The Communications and External Events Coordinator position is expected to work an average of 40 hours per week and will be paid $44,000. This position is also eligible for 100% employer-paid health insurance; a 401(k) plan with 4% employer match; optional employee-paid dental and vision; paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave; and a professional development stipend.
