Position Description

Juma is seeking a mission-driven professional to lead its fund development activities at its Seattle, Washington site. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Seattle Development Manager will play an instrumental role in the organization’s ability to generate financial support from institutional funders, including corporations, foundations, government agencies, and individual donors. They will, individually and in conjunction with local leadership and the national development team, help sustain and grow Juma’s local base of philanthropic support. This position requires exceptional drive and passion for Juma’s mission, along with outstanding organizational and communication skills. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively with peers across departments while demonstrating resourcefulness, flexibility, and high professionalism.

The Seattle Development Manager will also support the development and stewardship of community partnerships to advance Juma’s social enterprise and youth program activities, serving as a local leader and advocate for the young people it serves.

Duties and Responsibilities

Managing and growing a portfolio of Seattle-based institutional and individual funders with a current annual fundraising goal of $700,000, leading donors through the cultivation and stewardship cycles. Juma anticipates a 5-8% year-over-year growth in its site budget and fundraising goal. The Seattle Development Manager will position the site for long-term sustainability by focusing on the following areas:

External Fundraising (70% of the time)

  • Institutional Funders: An estimated portfolio of 25 donors, currently contributing
    $600,000 annually
    • In partnership with the Site Director and Chief Operating Officer, manage and serve as the relationship lead for Seattle institutional funders, focusing on building intentional and effective partnerships.
    • In partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Senior Director of Institutional Giving, create compelling grant proposals and ongoing funder reports to corporations, foundations, and government entities, including:
      • Writing and assembling all necessary attachments, such as budgets, with key input from Juma’s Development, Program, and Finance teams.
      • Submitting all grant proposals and reports.
      • Acting as the key liaison between Juma National staff, Juma Seattle staff, and institutional funders.
    • Managing the Seattle Institutional Giving Calendar to reflect all ongoing grant activity, including:
      • Recording the status of opportunities, deadlines, contacts, action items, and grant outcomes in Salesforce, the Seattle Development Plan, and relevant Development Calendars.
      • Preparing monthly contributed revenue/pipeline analysis reports to track progress against established goals.
  • Individual Funders: An estimated portfolio of 50 donors, currently contributing $100,000 annually.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Individual Giving Manager to create and establish an annual site Individual Giving Plan, ensuring timely outreach and innovative in-person cultivation activities and events are held.
    • Create and draft compelling collateral and communications supporting Juma’s annual spring and end-of-the-year campaigns.

Local Advisory Board Leadership (20% of the time)

Juma’s Seattle site maintains a Local Advisory Board composed of community professionals, Juma champions, and alums of our program who provide leadership and guidance to site leaders. The Seattle Development Manager will:

  • Lead the work of and act as the organization liaison for the Advisory Board, partnering with the Board Chair to develop and implement an annual engagement strategy.
  • In partnership with the Site Director and Chief Operating Officer, plan and execute Advisory Board supported events and initiatives.

Local Site Leadership (10% of the time)

The Seattle Development Manager will help deepen the impact Juma’s program has on youth by:

  • Collaborating with local leadership and Juma’s National Team to align core department goals and workflow.
  • Acting as the key liaison for all Development activities and maintaining site leadership up to date on continued progress.
  • Supporting the establishment and stewardship of partnerships to advance Juma’s social enterprise and youth program activities, including securing volunteers to aid in the delivery of youth workshops and mentoring activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in the nonprofit philanthropic,
    private, or public sectors.
  • Proven track record in supporting the management of relationships with corporations,
    foundations, government agencies, and other philanthropic institutions.
  • Skilled in creating robust, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising,
    including the ability to convey complex ideas through simple and brief materials.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and respect for youth development principles and youth leadership and culture.
  • An advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices.

Reports to: Chief Development Officer
Job Location: Seattle, Washington
Salary: $65,000-$70,000
Classification: Full-time, exempt
Hours/Week: 40 hours
Hybrid Work Environment: Juma maintains a hybrid work environment. The Development
Manager will be expected to work out of the organization’s Seattle Office two days per week,
potentially moving to 3 days per week, pending business needs.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
