Job Summary:

The Sr. Development Officer supports the execution of key fundraising strategies, specifically focusing on the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gifts.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Manages a portfolio of 100-150 major donors and prospects with the capacity to make gifts of $10,000 or more, helping cultivate strong relationships and solicit annual donations.
Ensures timely recognition of gifts and pledges for all donations over $1,000.
Makes individual calls to solicit renewal of $1,000+ donations throughout the year.
Works closely with other Sr. Development Officers to ensure consistent use of communications and messaging.
Provides expertise to donors on various forms of giving, including Qualified Charitable Distributions, gifts of stock, cryptocurrency donations, legacy gifts, employee gift matching, Donor Advised Funds, in-kind donations, and more.
Conducts research on prospective major donors, including individual philanthropists, foundations, and corporations.
Supports donor stewardship by collaborating with program staff to tell CCL/CCE’s success stories.
Supports the cultivation of a culture of philanthropy within the organization.
Maintains performance standards and moves management processes through Salesforce.
Leverages software platforms that support fundraising efforts, including Double the Donation, FreeWill, and others.
Supports the Director of Development in the execution of annual fundraising campaigns and special fundraising campaigns, as needed.
Supports grant writing and the development of donor materials, as needed.
Supports donor relations events, such as Climate Guardian appreciation events.
Provides support during our two national conferences, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree and/or CFRE preferred.
5+ years of experience cultivating major gifts or equivalent.
Excellent oral and written communication, active listening, and presentation skills.
Ability to interact with high-level donors and volunteers while advancing individual relationships that result in philanthropic contributions.
Detail-oriented, organized, accountable, and deadline-driven.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced and remote work environment.
Effective team player with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Ability to gracefully manage challenging personalities.
Ability to handle confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment.
Ability to maintain the highest ethical standards in personal work as well as work of the Development Department overall.

Ability to promote an atmosphere of mutual respect and fun.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Experience with MS Office suite, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive.
Experience with Salesforce Lightning, FreeWill, Double the Donation, and Candid preferred.
Working knowledge of Qualified Charitable Distributions, gifts of stock, cryptocurrency donations, legacy gifts, employee gift matching, Donor Advised Funds, and in-kind donations preferred.
Compensation:

$75,000 per year annual salary. Benefits for a full-time position include health insurance (eligibility after a waiting period), dental and vision insurance, life insurance, and a 401K retirement plan. Two weeks accrued vacation for all first-year employees. An additional week of vacation is accrued after one year of employment with Citizens’ Climate.

Schedule:

This is a flexible, full-time, exempt, and remote position that can be performed from anywhere in the United States. It requires reliable access to the internet and cellular service. Evening and weekend hours may be occasionally necessary when working with volunteers, donors, and staff across multiple time zones. Occasional travel is required, including one week in Washington, D.C., and regional travel to meet major prospective donors.
