Compensation: $55,000 – 70,000 annual salary, healthcare and childcare stipend available

ABOUT

Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition (FCAC) is a Native Movement fiscally sponsored community coalition dedicated to organizing the collective power of Fairbanks & Interior Alaska communities toward climate action. FCAC is a volunteer member-led coalition that supports its members with tools, resources, and capacity to build power through targeted campaigns and organizer support at the local and state level. FCAC has been a backbone for the climate justice movement in Alaska since 2014 – from shutting down the largest coal plant in Alaska, to helping stand up the Alaska Just Transition Collective and the Alaska Climate Alliance, hosting multiple cohorts in our organizer support program, all while establishing five campaign focused working groups with multiple strategic wins locally.

Work Environment & Benefits

FCAC shares office space with Native Movement in downtown Fairbanks, and Anchorage as needed. The ideal candidate will live in Fairbanks however we will accept candidates living in other communities in Alaska and will discuss alternative arrangements. Candidates moving from out of state will be asked to move to Fairbanks. FCAC provides stipends for health and childcare, greater than average Paid Time Off (PTO), including “Harvest” and “Ceremony/Spiritual ” leave and ample paid holidays. Additionally, FCAC’s standard work week is four days – Monday through Thursday – while Fridays are paid “wellness” days. Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition (FCAC) seeks a dynamic Campaign Co-Executive Director (exempt), to lead the organizing team in development, implementation and execution of grassroots organizing campaigns to advance locally and statewide within the values and frameworks of Just Transition and Decolonization. This is a full-time role at 40 hour work weeks (32 in office, 8 wellness time) with a focus on supervising and strategic campaign guidance. This individual should have experience managing teams, as well as, working in campaign execution and development. They should be a supportive team leader, high-level thinker, and strategist able to navigate a variety of environments with skill and integrity. The Campaign Co-Executive Director is one of three co-director roles and will work closely with other directors, staff, and council leaders to develop, implement, and adhere to policies that support FCACs staff and base of members. Our ideal candidate will come to this role with experience in managing staff teams, or networks with duties included but not limited to: executing organization systems for hiring, performance evaluations, and stewarding organizational culture.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Primary responsibilities

Support organizing team, of up to 7 people, with direct supervision and campaign development support. Provide strategic campaign guidance to working groups and partner state tables. Implement grassroots campaign leadership development tactics within the Just Transition Framework for members, staff and partners. Test creative grassroots organizing campaign tactics that give our members opportunities to take action in support of climate justice campaigns. Identify and cultivate relationships with strategic campaign partners. Help identify and implement opportunities for members in all working groups to engage in climate action across the Coalition. Participate in coalition calls, webinars, and meetings. Capture and track information about relationships with partners and other organizations.

Co-Executive Director Shared Responsibilities

Ensure coordination between members, partners and staff. Assist with identifying, writing, tracking and reporting for grants, annual reports, etc. Support, engage, and execute budgeting and fundraising strategies. Engage in hiring processes and decisions. Steward FCAC’s culture of leadership and accountability, actively deepening the staff’s analysis and skill set within our commitment to the Jemez and Defend the Sacred principles. Seek out and approve professional development opportunities for campaign staff team. Implement project management systems while tracking organizational team’s progress. Support the heart of the organization through commitment to personal, interpersonal, and community healing with restorative justice and conflict resolution. Build a healthy, productive, anti-oppressive and affirming organizational culture for all staff and coalition members. Create and maintain a work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse and talented staff.

Desired Experience & Skills

Have 3+ years of grassroots campaign experience in engaging and organizing community members and/or working with coalition partners. Keen strategic sense on how to lead the strategy, alliances, narrative, and tactics to win campaigns. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects on overlapping timelines track budgets, commitments, and multiple partners and moving parts. Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to build trust and maintain relationships with team members, partners and community members. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt writing style for different audiences. Willingness to learn and address root causes of climate change to ensure campaign implementation aligns with frameworks of Just Transition. Persistent in a personal process of learning and unlearning towards decolonization with a commitment to participate in achieving principled change. Driven, creative, and innovative. Comfortable representing FCAC with funders, partners, volunteers, supporters, and the press. Digitally savvy, with experience with online and social media tactics. An authentic passion for FCAC’s mission, enthusiasm for our vision, and ability to work in alignment with organizational values. Strong time-management skills, with the ability to meet goals and deadlines while working independently.
