Make a Difference!
Smile Train’s Intern, Digital Asset Management will help archive, organize, and optimize the organization’s growing library of photography and video, ensuring that global staff and vendors can easily find and access the assets they need. The intern will collaborate with the Communications team to develop new workflows, standardize and enhance metadata and search functionality, and implement best practices to support high demand and improve the overall user experience. As Smile Train transitions to a new digital asset management system, the intern will also help create user manuals, documentation, and processes that ensure the work has long-term value and can be adopted by teams around the world after the internship concludes.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the migration of photo and video assets from a legacy system to a new digital asset management (DAM) platform
- Develop, apply, and maintain consistent metadata and tagging standards to improve asset searchability and long-term preservation
- Assist in designing workflows for new assets
- Collaborate with photography and video production teams to manage the timely cataloging, archiving, retrieval, and delivery of media assets
- Respond to internal photo and video requests, helping staff identify assets that align with campaign goals, brand guidelines, and programmatic needs
- Conduct regular catalog audits to ensure metadata accuracy, completeness, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Use DAM analytics and download reports to identify high-value assets and opportunities to improve organization and usability.
- Document workflows and best practices to support long-term system adoption and knowledge sharing across global teams.
- Handle sensitive and confidential media and information with professionalism and discretion.
- Provide general support for additional content management and asset organization needs as required.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has an interest in learning about nonprofit communications and an interest in helping children get the cleft care they need. The candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and exceptional organizational skills, with careful attention to detail. Strong communication and collaboration abilities are essential, along with effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with digital archiving or organizing large collections of digital files
- Working knowledge of photography and video formats, file types, and best practices for media use across multiple platforms and channels
- Strong understanding of metadata and its role in organizing and retrieving digital assets
Preferred Education and Experience
- Interest in nonprofit communications, storytelling, or mission-driven marketing.
- Experience working with a digital asset management (DAM) system and familiarity with DAM best practices.
- Experience documenting workflows, processes, or user guides.
- Experience applying metadata, tagging, and taxonomy structures to digital content.
- Understanding of taxonomy, controlled vocabularies, or digital library systems.
- Experience migrating assets from legacy systems or catalogs into new platforms.
- Fluency in Spanish, French, Arabic, Tagalog, and/or Portuguese is a plus.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud tools such as Photoshop and/or Premiere Pro is a plus.
Compensation
$20/hour
