Role Summary:
The Marketing Intern will play a key role in supporting Smile Train’s mission to raise awareness about cleft care across Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Working closely with the regional team and local partner hospitals, the intern will assist in developing and implementing communication strategies that strengthen community engagement and increase access to free, high-quality cleft treatment.
Reports To: Dr. Alejandro Gonzalez, Director for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean / Janet Gonzalez , Program Assistant for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean
Key Responsibilities:
· Support Smile Train partner hospitals and treatment centers in developing and implementing localized communication strategies to promote cleft care programs.
· Coordinate and participate in meetings with Smile Train partners to understand local program needs, audiences, and communication opportunities.
· Assist in the design and evaluation of outreach initiatives aimed at increasing awareness among patients and families about free, high-quality cleft care available through Smile Train’s partner network.
· Contribute to the development of brand guidelines and visual identity manuals for assigned treatment centers to ensure consistent and accurate representation of Smile Train’s brand.
· Organize and support focus groups with patients, families, and community members to better understand perceptions, communication barriers, and effective messaging strategies.
· Maintain a comprehensive database of all communication and marketing materials created during the internship, including visuals, reports, and campaign assets.
· Prepare and present monthly progress reports summarizing activities completed, results achieved, and recommendations for improvement.
· Develop a detailed activity plan (chronogram) aligned with the goals and expected outcomes of the main project.
Required Education and Experience:
· Recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at Universidad Iberoamericana
· Demonstrated interest in social impact, nonprofit communications, or global health initiatives.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English.
· Knowledge of digital marketing tools, including social media platforms, content creation, and community engagement strategies.
· Experience or coursework in brand management, media relations, or campaign development is preferred but not required.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with graphic design or creative tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar) is a plus.
