About Smile Train

Smile Train is an international children’s charity, headquartered in New York, with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Many children living with untreated clefts around the world live in isolation and often have difficulty eating, breathing, hearing and speaking. Cleft treatment is safe and the impact on a child’s life is immediate and transformative.

Founded in 1999, Smile Train is today the largest global cleft charity. We are proud to have enabled more than two million free cleft surgeries in over 90 countries. Our sustainable model provides specialist training, funding and resources to empower local medical professionals to provide surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.
