Reports to: Director, Development
Summary/Objective:
We are looking for a Senior Manager, Development to join our team. The Senior Manager will manage a portfolio of mid-level donors and prospects, contribute to mid-level team strategy, and move donors through the pipeline with engagement opportunities throughout the year.
The Senior Manager will oversee a team of two Development Managers. The Senior Manager will report to the Director, Development.
This is a full-time opportunity starting as soon as possible. Some travel will be required (15-
25%). Ideal candidates are based in New York City, though consideration will be extended to
candidates based outside of the tri-state area based on experience level.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for a portfolio of 150-200 mid-level donors with a focus on retention, increasing average gifts, moving donors to a major gift, and planned gifts
- Partner with Director, Development on strategy for mid-level donors including placement in gift officer portfolios, cultivation strategies, stewardship activities, and more
- Effectively engage a portfolio of donors through meaningful connections including phone calls, personalized emails and mailings, face-to-face meetings and other communications
- Create individual goals for each person in their portfolio based on donor’s giving history and research
- Create a plan for each donor to serve as the annual engagement plan, effectively and, in a timely manner, execute that plan to retain and upgrade donors, and document all activities in Moves Management and/or Tasks in database
- Work closely with Smile Train colleagues across departments to help further fundraising efforts
- Prepare and personalize correspondence and fundraising materials, including donor stewardship and impact reports, funding proposals, briefing memos, and acknowledgment letters as appropriate
- Collaborate with the Director, Development to establish performance metrics for monthly, quarterly and annual objectives to meet revenue projections
- Create monthly reports for management to accurately reflect individual and team portfolio activity and performance
- Conduct basic prospect research on individuals and family foundations
- Assist with donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events as requested
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of mid-level and overarching philanthropic trends, techniques, strategies, and best practices
- Serve as a primary contact for incoming inquiries from mid-level donors
- Effectively manage team of two Development, Managers with mid-level portfolios to ensure team goals and projections are achieved
- Undertake special projects and other responsibilities as requested

Required education and experience:
- Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of relevant experience in development or fundraising, ideally in a non-profit environment
- Proven Track record of closing four and five figure gifts
- Success working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a strong ROI orientation
- Strong technological aptitude with advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and donor database software.
- Basic knowledge of prospect screening and research tools
- Ability to network and leverage contacts and connections, and ability to prioritize while working under multiple deadlines
- Detail-oriented; ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill, and present information to a range of audience members
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Great customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain perspective and a sense of humor
Preferred education and experience:
- Advanced degree (M.B.A/ M.A./M.S.)
- Experience with Salesforce
