The Opportunity that lies ahead
As a Staff Engineer (Full-Stack), you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and deployment of our web applications. Those applications are the first step our prospects and customers take at Cloudsmith, and give them the power to manage how software artifacts are used within and beyond their organisation. We’re building a new UI from the ground up, based on user-centric UX principles and modern software design. You'll be at the forefront of developing the product and building APIs which are scalable, secure, and seamlessly integrated.
Your Role:
- Frontend and Backend Development: Leading role in the development of web applications using React and NextJS for the frontend and Python for backend services. Create intuitive, efficient, and engaging user interfaces while building robust APIs and backend systems on AWS.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with UX designers, Product Managers, and other engineers to deliver projects that align with our business goals and user needs. Ensure a seamless, integrated experience across all platforms.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Share your knowledge and expertise with team members. Lead by example and contribute to a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Innovation and Best Practices: Keep abreast of the latest trends in web development, including responsive design, progressive web apps, and serverless architectures. Implement best practices for coding, testing, and deployment to enhance performance and scalability.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven Full-Stack Expertise: Extensive experience in developing web applications with React, NextJS, Python DRF or similar, and designing and implementing APIs. A good understanding of AWS services is preferred.
- UX/UI Sensibility: Demonstrated ability to work closely with design teams to implement user experiences that are both visually appealing and highly functional.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of delivering creative and pragmatic solutions.
- Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with team members at all levels.

Our technology stack is centered around modern frameworks and cloud services, including React, NextJS, Python, APIs, AWS (Cloudfront, Serverless, S3, EC2, PostgreSQL), and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.

Hybrid Work
Cloudsmith is based in Belfast, and we use out HQ regularly for activities like bi-weekly development review sessions and operations team in-office days. We also hold all-hands offsites in Belfast a few times per year, with guest speakers and team activities. On a day-to-day basis, most Cloudsmithers work remotely, so we really rely on our online collaboration tools! Note that this role is open only to candidates who have the right to work in the UK or Ireland without requiring sponsorship.
