Kazakhstan, the Dominican Republic, and Boston.

In Rwanda, PIH works in partnership with the Government of Rwanda through its sister organization, Inshuti Mu Buzima (IMB), to strengthen public health systems in rural, underserved districts. PIH supports comprehensive service delivery across non-communicable diseases (NCDs), oncology, surgery, and reproductive, maternal, neonatal, adolescent, and child health (RMNACH). Rwinkwavu serves as a key site for NCD and surgical services, while Kirehe district is a focal area for reproductive and maternal health programming.

The NCD & RMNACH Research Manager will be based primarily in Rwinkwavu but also work regularly in Kirehe district. They will lead and manage research activities across the NCD and RMNACH portfolios, with a focus on NCDs, ensuring scientific rigor, high-quality implementation, and strong integration with clinical and programmatic teams.

They will bring strong expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, excellent scientific writing skills, and demonstrated experience managing research projects from

conception through dissemination. In addition, they will mentor junior researchers and clinical staff engaged in research and oversee quality improvement (QI) initiatives across both program areas.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research Leadership & Project Management

• Plan, coordinate, and implement research projects across NCD and RMNACH programs.
• Lead development of research protocols, study procedures, and data collection tools in collaboration with principal investigators and program teams.
• Ensure projects meet milestones, timelines, and deliverables.
• Monitor and manage project budgets in collaboration with finance teams.
• Ensure ethical compliance, data security, and adherence to study protocols.

Methodological Oversight

• Lead and oversee quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods study design and implementation.
• Ensure high-quality data collection, management, and analysis.
• Supervise and support research coordinators, data collectors, and field teams.
• Support rigorous interpretation of findings, integrating clinical and contextual perspectives.

Writing & Dissemination

• Lead and contribute to abstracts, reports, manuscripts, policy briefs and grant proposals.
• Prepare progress and final reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Present findings to management, Ministry of Health, partners, and at national and international dissemination platforms.

Mentorship & Capacity Building

• Mentor junior researchers and clinical staff engaged in research activities.
• Strengthen research capacity within IMB, including training on qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Foster a culture of inquiry and evidence-based practice across programs.

Quality Improvement

• Oversee and support quality improvement (QI) projects within NCD and RMNACH programs.
• Ensure QI initiatives are methodologically sound, data-driven, and aligned with program priorities.
• Support translation of QI findings into programmatic action and policy discussions.
