Position Overview

The Directo r of Nursing & Midwifery, General Medicine will play an integral role in leading PIH-SL in the expansion of G eneral M edicine services – including I nternal M edicine, E mergency, NCD, Pharmacy and Radiology, S urgery, C ritical C are, and A nesthesia at PIH supported facilities . The Director will work in close collaboration with their service counterpart, the Medical Director , General Medicine , their cadre counterpart, the Director of Nursing & Midwifery, RMNC A H , and MOH to ensure that high-quality and evidenc e-based care is being delivered across the entire Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) campus and network of peripheral health units (PHUs) . The Director will serve as part of the Joint H ospital M anagement Committee and PIH’s Senior Management Team, and will be responsible for implementing key PIH and MOH strategic objectives that fall within general medicine services.

The ideal candidate must have a deep commitment to social justice , be adept at working in limited-resource settings and has great interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must also have well-documented nursing and midwifery experience, particularly in the service areas listed above. This position is open to both national and international candidates .

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Overall General Medicine Services Strategy and Leadership (50%)

  • W ork in close collaboration with their service counterpart to develop and implement the overall nursing and midwifery strategy in general medicine across PIH supported facilities, including both at KGH and the PHUs.
  • Provide primary clinical oversight and leadership of the following services/ departments: Internal Medicine , Emergency, NCD, Pharmacy and Radiology, S urgery, C ritical C are, and A nesthesia.
  • E stablish and maintain strong partnership s with both local and central MOH stakeholders , especially the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery and the Nursing and Midwifery Council , to continuously ensure that ou r plans and strategies are aligned with the ir most updated plans and strategies.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships across OnePIH Nursing and Midwifery to ensure alignment with strategy.
  • Develop, manage, and track annual budgets to support organizational objectives.

General Medicine Clinical Care and Support (50%)

  • Oversee the delivery and quality of nursing and midwifery care in general medicine services across PIH-SL–supported sites, ensuring high standards of service and systematic identification and resolution of performance gaps.
  • W ork in close partnership with their service counterpart and the health information system team to monitor medical programing and promote a culture of data driven decision-making and evidence-based practice.
  • Strengthen leadership and clinical capacity within the general medicine services by implementing structured mentorship and capacity-building initiatives that contribute to sustainable health system strengthening.

Education And Work Experience Requirements

  • BSc or Masters level training as a nurse-midwife with a minimum of 10 years of combined clinical and health programmatic experience. License must be active.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in global health delivery in resource - limited settings and experience designing, implementing, and managing nursing and midwifery programs.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a senior leadership and management position with demonstrated ability of effective communication and leadership across diverse groups of stakeholders .
  • Demonstrated ability of project management at a high strategic level to interact with organizational senior management team s, including proficiency in budget management, program monitoring, management of large and multidisciplinary staff, etc.
  • Proven experience and interest in providing clinical education, training, or mentorship to health workers.
  • Proven commitment to PIH core values, including social justice and h umility, and a demonstrated capacity working across multicultural and multidisciplinary team s.
