Essential Duties and Responsibilities: | ||
| Main duties and responsibilities Prepare anesthesia equipment and supplies: An Anesthesia Assistant is responsible for setting up and maintaining anesthesia machines, monitors, and other equipment in the operating room before and after procedure. They ensure that all equipment is functioning properly, calibrated, and sterile before each surgery, document daily anesthetic consumption, and regularly check anesthesia store.
Assist in the administration of anesthesia: During surgical procedures, He/ She assists the Nurse Anesthetist/Anesthesiologist by helping in preparation and of medications, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient safety during the procedure and handover.
Monitor patient vital signs: He/ She closely monitors the patient's vital signs during surgery, including blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature. They communicate any changes or abnormalities to the Nurse Anesthetist/Anesthesiologist and make adjustments as necessary.
Provide emergency support: In the event of an anesthesia-related emergency, such as an adverse reaction or complication, He/ She must be prepared to assist the Nurse Anesthetist/Anesthesiologist and provide necessary support and equipment.
Maintain cleanliness and sterilization: He/ She is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment in the operating room. This includes properly cleaning and sterilizing equipment and supplies, as well as adhering to infection control protocols.
Document and maintain records: Accurate documentation is essential in the healthcare field. He/ She is responsible for maintaining records of anesthesia equipment, medications used, supplies, cabinet stock level, vital sign measurements, and any other relevant information related to patient care.

Education and Work Experience Requirements: | ||
| Anesthesia Assistant Required Skills Technical knowledge: He/ She must have a strong understanding of anesthesia equipment, medications, and procedures. They should be familiar with various types of anesthesia machines, monitors, and their proper usage.
Attention to detail: The role requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure that all equipment is properly prepared, calibrated, and sterilized. They must also closely monitor vital signs and be able to recognize any changes or abnormalities.
Communication skills: He/ She must have effective communication skills to interact with patients, medical professionals, and other members of the healthcare team. They should be able to relay important information accurately and concisely.
Problem-solving ability: Anesthesia procedures can be complex, and unexpected issues can arise. He/ She should have strong problem-solving skills to handle emergencies and make quick decisions under pressure
Teamwork and collaboration: He/ She works closely with Nurse anesthetist/anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, midwifes and other healthcare professionals. They must be able to work well as part of a team and communicate effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient. Required Qualifications Must hold a valid license and certificate to practice as an SECHN in Sierra Leone Ability to lift and move heavy equipment. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment. Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in healthcare. Willing to live and work fulltime in Kono District, Sierra Leone.
