Position Overview:
Partners In Health Liberia (PIHL) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Oncology Nurse to support the delivery of high-quality cancer care services. The Oncology Nurse will play a key role in the safe preparation and administration of chemotherapy, as well as in providing comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients. Working closely with physicians, pharmacists, and the broader clinical team, the nurse will ensure patient safety, promote comfort, and contribute to improved treatment outcomes for individuals affected by cancer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Chemotherapy Administration
  • Safely prepare and administer chemotherapy and other oncology treatments in line with national protocols and international safety standards.
  • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and intervene promptly in case of complications.
  • Provide pre- and post-treatment education, counseling, and emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and the oncology care team to ensure continuity of care across all treatment stages.
Patient Assessment & Monitoring
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, including physical exams, symptom evaluation, and review of laboratory results.
  • Accurately document patient information in medical records and treatment charts.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating promptly to the appropriate clinical authority.
Education & Psychosocial Support
  • Educate patients and caregivers on chemotherapy regimens, potential side effects, self-care practices, and follow-up requirements.
  • Provide psychosocial support and counselling, acknowledging the emotional and social challenges faced by oncology patients and their families.
Infection Prevention & Safety
  • Strictly adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in the preparation and administration of chemotherapy.
  • Follow safety protocols for the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous drugs.
Quality Improvement & Capacity Building
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives to strengthen oncology service delivery.
  • Mentor and train fellow nurses and clinical staff in safe chemotherapy practices and oncology care.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for oncology nursing.

Qualifications:
Required:
· Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
· At least 2 years of clinical experience, with oncology or chemotherapy experience strongly preferred.
· Certification or formal training in chemotherapy administration is an asset.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency response training required.
· Minimum of an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant equivalent.
· At least 3 years of proven experience as an Electrician, with willingness to pursue further education in Electrical Engineering.
· Proficient in reading and interpreting schematics, manuals, work plans, and other technical documentation.
· Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to work in confined spaces and in varying conditions.
· Flexibility to work after hours, weekends, and public holidays with short or no notice.
Preferred:
· General knowledge of health facility maintenance systems including Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), mechanical, and plumbing systems.
· Prior experience in a similar role with NGOs/INGOs.
· Ability to explain technical issues in simple, non-technical language for a broader audience.
· Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
· Experience working in limited-resource or low-infrastructure settings.
Working Conditions
· Based primarily at J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital, with occasional outreach to primary health facilities and rural communities.
· Regular exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous drugs – strict compliance with protective measures is required.
· May involve weekend, holiday, or on-call duties as necessary to support patient care.
