Job Description & Qualifications

Are you a recent or current undergraduate / graduate student who has coding and graphic design skills? Do you have experience creating figures, graphics, and other kinds of data visuals for social science analysis?

Knology is seeking a data visuals intern to support our transdisciplinary team of social scientists, journalists, and educators. The intern will produce data visuals for a variety of Knology outputs—including reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and social media communications. They will also assist with a variety of small-scale administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, emailing, metrics, survey programming, etc.) The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree (or evidence of current undergraduate / graduate enrollment);
  • Basic coding skills in and experience using R (or comparable language) to create data visuals (analysis skills not required but a plus);
  • Interest in / experience with other graphic design tools (e.g., Canva); and
  • Experience programming surveys (using Lime, Qualtrics, or other similar online platforms).

This is a part-time internship position that will require roughly 5 hours of work per week. Exact starting and ending dates for the position are negotiable, but we anticipate the internship beginning on or around October 1, 2025. The intern will receive $18 / hour for data visuals production.

Knology has adopted a fully remote work model with staff located across the US. This position will be entirely remote, and its schedule can accommodate other work and school-related demands. Knology is only able to contract with US-based individuals who are legally able to work in the US.

Job Responsibilities and Benefits

Interns are considered part of the Knology staff, and will participate in data visualization activities across all of the organization’s projects.

While the data visuals intern will not conduct any data analysis or pursue independent research, they will be able to develop a portfolio that illustrates their contributions to Knology’s work and their own professional development.
