Postdoctoral Researcher in Membrane Separations
100%, Zurich, fixed-term
The Membrane and Interfacial Science Lab in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT) at ETH Zürich designs materials and processes that enable more energy-efficient and sustainable separations. We work on membrane technologies that can lead to disruptive improvements in carbon capture, gas separations, and water purification. Researchers in our group typically conduct work related to membrane synthesis, experimental characterization, and transport modeling.
Job description
The postdoctoral researcher will lead and develop research activities on next-generation membrane processes. Responsibilities may include:
- Experimental evaluation of membrane performance in gas and liquid separations (e.g., carbon capture, methane purification, water treatment)
- Fabrication and characterization of nanoporous and polymeric materials
- Theoretical and computational modeling of transport and energy efficiency
- Supervision and mentoring of doctoral and master’s students
- Preparation of scientific manuscripts and contribution to research proposals
The postdoc will work closely with Prof. Anthony Straub to carry out these responsibilities. Opportunities exist to interface with industrial collaborators and national research initiatives, such as NCCR Separations.
Profile
- A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in membrane science, material fabrication, or transport modeling
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Motivation to work independently and with a collaborative, international research team
