Job Summary:

The Finance Officer will perform financial functions, including overall financial monitoring and provide support to projects in finance and operations, to ensure the smooth implementation of the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Project. Provides financial management and guidance, conducts analyses of financial data, and reviews and prepares required reports. S/He will process vouchers, record journal entries, and manage project advances. The Finance Officer 1 will participate in various financial processes, including external and internal audits. Analyzes performance trends, models complex business decisions, tracks performance, and presents results.

Accountabilities:

  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and uses Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP).

  • Maintain data integrity and recognize and research unusual activity for further investigation.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with management, staff, and project beneficiaries.
  • Interprets and provides explanations for discrepancies and variations in financial data.
  • Applies updated information technology to facilitate project goals and objectives.
  • Understand and adhere to systems of internal control.
  • Manage mobile money platforms for effective transfer of funds to project beneficiaries.
  • Interact with co-workers to analyze or resolve issues arising from weekly data entries.
  • Manage the filing of financial documents on the internal filing platform.
  • Coordinate with staff for weekly liquidation of travel and other advances.
  • Use financial systems to produce vouchers and reports on time.
  • Communicate structured information in a clear, concise, and organized manner suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.

Applied Knowledge & Skills:

  • Applies a thorough knowledge of financial management, investment capital, risk analysis, debt management, and investment analysis, legal and regulatory compliance in the respective industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Internal Control Fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software required.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of external regulations as well as internal corporate policies and procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, identify/resolve errors, and prepare reports. Ability to motivate and work well with others.

Problem Solving & Impact:

  • Analyzes moderately complex business operations and financial statements.
  • Reviews and determines compliance with laws and regulations; draws conclusions; makes recommendations for approval.
  • Reviews and analyzes recommendations from peers.
  • Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to rectify.

Supervision Given/Received:

  • Works under very general supervision. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • Contributes to the completion of organizational projects and goals.
  • Serves as a resource to others in resolving moderately complex problems; identifies substantive issues that are thoroughly and accurately researched and analyzed.

Education: **

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or its International Equivalent.

Experience: **

  • 3+ Years of progressively responsible accounting, finance, and operational management, and at least three years with USG rules and regulations
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Prior work in a non-governmental organization (NGO).

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screens and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Travel Requirements:

Less than 10%

The expected hiring salary range for this role is USD 13,667 - 20,000 for annual basic salary. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, market pay, and budget.
