We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Technical Specialist- New Technology for an upcoming TB diagnostic network strengthening opportunity in Bangladesh. This position is contingent upon award and will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Position Description:

The Technical Specialist- New Technology will be responsible for managing technical aspects of the TB program related to new tools, innovations, especially for DST/tNGS, and eLMIS to integrate phenotypic and sequencing workflows. S/He will provide technical support to the MBDC and TB stakeholders on developing or updating strategies and will provide technical assistance for innovating, planning and implementing activities to improve quality and performance of new technologies. The incumbent will work under the supervision and guidance of the TB Laboratory Systems Advisor. The position will be based in Dhaka and will involve frequent in-country travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic technical guidance and oversight for design and implementation of activities to strengthen and improve the implementation of new technology including DST/tNGS
  • Work in coordination with the MBDC, NGO, partners and other stakeholders to identify program priorities and develop implementation strategies related to technology and new innovations
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance to NTRLs, RTRLs, and partner laboratories to improve quality, performance, and sustainability of new technologies
  • Identify technical gaps, challenges, and system bottlenecks related to new technology implementation and recommend practical solutions
  • Strengthen Quality Management Systems (QMS) related to new diagnostic technologies, including SOP development, validation, QA/QC, and performance monitoring
  • Support implementation and improvement of eLMIS to ensure effective integration of supply chain data with diagnostic and sequencing workflows
  • Promote data integration and use of dashboards and laboratory information systems for data-driven decision-making
  • Coordinate closely with the TB Laboratory Systems Advisor, MBDC, NTRL, RTRLs, and national stakeholders to ensure harmonized implementation of innovations
  • Support capacity building through training, mentoring, and development of technical materials for laboratory and program staff
  • Participate in technical working groups (e.g., NTBLWG) and represent FHI 360 in relevant coordination meetings
  • Conduct regular field visits to support implementation, supervision, and performance improvement of new technologies
  • Any other activities as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field
  • Strong technical experience in TB diagnostics, particularly DST methods and molecular technologies
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with TB or other infectious disease diagnostics and/or in laboratory systems strengthening.
  • Familiarity with eLMIS, laboratory information systems, or data integration platforms
  • Experience working with national TB programs or public health laboratory networks
  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising TB programs and mentoring staff and others.
  • Proven experience working with government officials, particularly the MBDC is highly desirable, to support strategy development, implementation plans and decision making.
  • Ability to travel in country 25-30% of the time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; fluency in Bangla required.
