Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) is an FHI 360 implemented global health initiative project funded by United States Government (U.S.G). FHI 360 is seeking applications from qualified Mozambicans for a Technical Advisor – Immunization position for the EpiC Project in Mozambique to be seconded at the Mozambique Ministry of Health (MISAU), Immunization Department. The project focuses on improving maternal, newborn, child health, immunization, and nutrition outcomes by increasing use and access to high quality services.
Job Summary
The MISAU Immunization Technical Advisor will work under the supervision of the EpiC Technical Director (TD) and will contribute technical support and guidance to the EpiC immunization strategy and implementation, and provide direct technical support and coordination to the immunization department at central level in policy and strategies development, including updating based on international standards of care, and guidance and dissemination support to lower levels MISAU staff. He/she will represent the MNCH+N project in key technical working group meetings and provide up-to-date information and guidance to the project in line with MISAU guidance on immunization activities, with a focus on high-impact practices and interventions, Reaching Every District/ Community (RED/REC) strategy. S/he will support in building MISAU technical capacity at all levels. The successful candidate will sit at the immunization department, MISAU in Maputo with frequent check-in with the MNCH+N project staff at the FHI360 offices in Maputo, reporting to the Technical Director.
Accountabilities:
- Coordinate project and FHI360 representation with national government actors, particularly in health and other key sectors.
- Collaborate with MISAU immunization department staff and other immunization technical assistance partners in developing and updating policies and strategies based on international care guidelines and best practices.
- Participate in central level immunization technical working group supporting MISAU efforts and flow down information to the project that will help with the successful implementation of approved interventions.
- Works with government counterparts to develop their capacity to conduct immunization supervision using approved standards and tools in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Support in central level TA and supportive supervision visits nationally, with a particular focus on project target province of Zambezia and the additional provinces receiving support to implement mobile brigades
- Provide technical expertise in the implementation and monitoring of immunization service delivery interventions at the health facility and community level.
- Support the project with the synthesis of immunization monitoring data for health facilities and communities’ indicators and develop responsive programmatic activities or course correction, for review and approval by the project management team.
- Contribute content on immunization related activities and participate in the development quarterly and annual reports, financial reports, and any other reports required by the U.S. Department of State's Office of Foreign Assistance.
- Collaborate with other technical advisors at HQ, country and project level to ensure that activities are integrated, aligned, efficient, and comprehensive.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, global health, social sciences, development studies or its equivalent in related areas with specialized training in immunization or health systems strengthening
- Clinical background strongly preferred, including training as a medical doctor or a nurse with advanced training in child health.
- At least 8 years of experience in immunization and public health programs
- Proven experience working with the Ministry of Health (MISAU) and knowledge of national and provincial health systems and the national immunization program.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with government staff and community stakeholders.
- Fluency in Portuguese required. Preference for strong interpersonal and oral presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume workflow.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibility.

Typical office environment.
Ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 5 - 25 lbs.
Technology to be Used: Personal Computer, Microsoft Office 365 (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Skype/TEAMS, email), office telephone, cell phone and printer/copier.
Travel Requirements: 10% - 25%
