A volunteer opportunity within the Americas Regional Office of Amnesty International. This position will support the Haiti team across a wide range of research, campaigning, communications, and administrative activities related to both strategic projects and reactive work in the country.

The opportunity to collaborate with one of the world's leading human rights organizations can provide valuable professional experience and the chance to make a meaningful impact on people's lives around the world.

We are looking for a highly qualified and motivated candidate who is available part-time for an ideal period of six months. Please note that this is an unpaid position and does not lead directly to employment with Amnesty International.

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:

  • Interest in and knowledge of human rights issues in Haiti.
  • A university degree in Law, International Relations, Political Science, Social Sciences, History, Anthropology, or related fields.
  • We are looking for a bilingual candidate with excellent French and either English or Spanish, spoken and written. Fluency in all three languages is desirable.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and online tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Ability to multitask and work proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to carry out office-related tasks such as the creation and management of digital office files
  • Previous professional experience in human rights issues in Haiti will be considered an asset.

The list of tasks for the selected candidate may include the following:

  • Research support: Collecting and systematizing diverse information on human rights issues in Haiti from a wide range of sources. This may involve searching for information online or speaking with authorities or NGOs, for example, to support the development of research materials.
  • Media monitoring: We conduct daily monitoring of human rights issues and developments in both international and local media. Selected articles are electronically archived in databases, and key news items are shared with team members via email. Volunteers are responsible for this task.
  • Campaign support: Amnesty International is a campaigning movement that seeks to mobilize people around the world in support of change. Volunteers assist the team in implementing its campaigns.
  • Communications, correspondence, and administrative support: Volunteers may be asked to provide administrative assistance to the team, such as organizing meetings with authorities or external partners, sending correspondence by mail or electronically, and keeping contact lists and other team databases up to date. They may also be asked to assist with logistical arrangements for team members' work travel.

Volunteering in one of the world's leading human rights organizations can provide valuable experience and following your successful volunteer placement, you may request to receive references. However, please note that volunteering does not lead directly to employment with Amnesty International.
