ISED’s is looking for an experienced website developer to build a new site to host hundreds of our new educational resources and thousands of our original photos. The Developer is responsible for creating a search system that users can easily navigate to find specific resources that come in the form of PDF guides, short videos (via URLs), JPEGs, PNGs, and other file types. They will also train ISED staff to upload, edit, and manage library content on an ongoing basis. ISED is a fiscal sponsor of Third Sector New England, Inc. (tsne.org).

ISED’s new Resource and Image Library will be a searchable file hosting website, somewhat akin to Farm Answers or ATTRA, though less extensive. The website will provide training resources and images on multiple farming subjects that are free to download. Potentially (if feasible) we may offer accounts wherein users can create individual login profiles to organize and download selected educational materials.

The website design should be easy to understand and navigate while also having an elegant appearance. The search functions should be well-organized and offer diverse search modes.

To expedite the website creation, ISED has already developed:

  • A Page and Subpage list for main navigation
  • Mockup designs for those pages and subpages
  • Core design elements like landing page images, navigation icons, and other graphics
  • Copy for 75% of webpages; links for some longer written guidance
  • A list of categories to help resource and image categorization and searches

The site needs to be developed on a timely basis. We expect the work to start once a contract is signed (or reasonably soon thereafter) and to be completed within four months; preferably sooner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop the new website project as detailed above
  • Create a step-by-step timeline for website buildout
  • Maintain target milestones and timelines for deliverables
  • Provide frequent and clear communication with the ISED Content Development Team.
  • Teach ISED staff members how to upload and maintain materials after website has been developed
  • Ongoing maintenance needs as requested – potentially contractual
  • Have unwavering enthusiasm for making adult education accessible!

  • Experience designing searchable websites with:
    • Downloadable files of many types
    • An ability for administrators to upload and edit files
  • Excellent communication skills, including timely responses to ISED team
  • Expertise in accessible website design standards
  • History of website maintenance & updates for ongoing projects
  • Knowledge of website security, protections for hosts and users of website
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, and / or at least 5 years’ related work experience

ISED + Resource library background:

ISED supports a network of refugee incubator farm programs around the country, and has been creating educational content and training resources since 2015, supported by USDA grants. Our core audiences are refugees and immigrants, although our products are quite useful for instruction to a broad range of small farmers. Mainstream educational resources rely so much on written English. Instead, we have focused on visual materials, oral instruction with interpreters, and materials with content in Plain Language (simplified writing that uses shorter words and sentences to improve understanding).
