The West Africa Fellows Program is an intensive leadership program that brings together a cohort of extraordinary individuals working on problems of poverty and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and community to strengthen their leadership and scale their ventures to create meaningful change in West Africa. After Fellow Candidates complete the program they join The Foundry, a community of like-minded peers who are working across sectors and geographies to build a world based on dignity. As part of this diverse community committed to sharing ideas and experiences, they gain access to capital, coaching, and continuous learning as part of lifelong accompaniment on their journey to creating social change.
About the Role
The Associate's role is to support everything needed to run and operate Acumen Academy programs in West Africa. This implies being detail-oriented to support the delivery of the program objectives.
The key responsibilities of the role are:
Program Administration
- Manage operations and logistics for the delivery of programs in West Africa including participants communications, learning platforms (such as Thinkific), booking venues, monitoring and keeping track of expenses.
- Supporting the team in preparing all training materials and in-session design
- Attending and co-facilitating seminars and workshops (this could include weekends – both virtual and in-person).
Program Reporting
- Data collection & quality assurance (QA): document all relevant data for evaluating program effectiveness, including managing QA and feedback forms
- Track data and stories on Fellows’ progress and create reports
- Provide information and stories for newsletter and blog publications
- Support writing reports: seminar, impact, feedback, and learning
Event Management
- Produce detailed show-flows for seminars, events, and programs
- Collaborate with the Communications department to ensure coordination and marketing of all events
- Help standardize event planning, production, and analysis
Outreach and selection of Fellows and Participants
- Draft content for outreach campaigns with media outlets (press, radio, online) to drive awareness about Acumen Academy West Africa programs
- Develop collateral for outreach and recruitment efforts
- Support the selection of Fellows, and participants including reviewing applications, planning selection events, and managing communications with all applicants
- Engage and support candidates and evaluators during the selection process
- Foundry Engagement / Community Management
- Support the Fellows community as needed in their self-led activities
- Support the implementation of foundry activities led by Acumen Academy West Africa
Business Development & Growth
- Support the Acumen Academy team in West Africa to develop fundraising strategy and assess the funding gap in WA
- Research into potential funders, partners and collaborators
- Support the evaluation and communication of the brand value of the Academy in West Africa vis a vis the work of potential partners
- Support on the development of pitch decks and collaboration packages
Skills and Qualifications
Ideal candidates will bring a deep commitment to Acumen’s mission of solving the toughest problems of poverty, and a passion for leadership development.
- A bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in fast-paced projects; Relevant experience in program administration and in the leadership development space is preferred
- Strong Excel, PowerPoint and data management/analysis skills; ability to track data on program, report when asked, and use data to inform strategies and decisions
- Experience working with HubSpot, Canva, and similar design tools is preferred
- A proven track record contributing to the management of complex projects and multiple work streams with a multiplicity of stakeholders (project management)
- Exceptional relationship and interpersonal skills: courtesy, tact, candor, empathy, patience, and strong team orientation
- Ability to drive process improvement and efficiency
- Organized and timely, with superior detail orientation
- Familiarity with social entrepreneurs and the social impact sector in West Africa
- Self-reflective and aligned with Acumen values
- Permanently authorized to work in Nigeria
