Job Description
The Grants Finance Officer manages the financial aspects of grant-funded projects. This includes budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. The Grants Finance Officer will work closely with program staff, grantors, and the finance department to ensure accurate financial management and reporting of grant activities.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Grants Finance Officer include but are not limited to:
- Grant Budget Management:

- Develop and manage budgets for grant proposals in collaboration with the Grants Manager and program staff.
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and compliance with grantor requirements.
- Prepare budget revisions and reallocations, as necessary.

- Financial Reporting:

- Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
- Ensure the various grant budgets are mapped to the overall organization budget.
- Maintain detailed records of financial transactions related to grants, including invoices, receipts, and disbursements.
- Coordinate with the finance department to reconcile grant accounts and ensure accurate financial reporting.

- Compliance and Audit:

- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to grant funding.
- Prepare for and assist with audits of grant-funded projects, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard grant funds and ensure compliance.

- Grant Monitoring and Evaluation:

- Track and report on the financial performance of grant-funded projects, including budget-to-actual comparisons.
- Identify and report on variances, providing analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Assist program staff in evaluating grant-funded projects from a financial perspective.

- Capacity Building and Support:

- Provide training and technical assistance to program staff on grant financial management and compliance.
- Develop and disseminate tools and resources for effective grant financial management.
- Serve as a resource for program staff and other stakeholders on grant finance-related issues.
Qualifications and Experience
(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training)
Level of Education/Academic Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar professional designation preferred.
Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required
- Strong analytical and financial management skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
- Excellent diligence and accuracy.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with program staff and external partners
Relevant Job Experience and Knowledge Required
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably with a focus on grants.
- Experience in nonprofit, and healthcare sectors is highly desirable.
- Proven record of managing complex grant budgets and financial reporting requirements.
- Understanding of the grant lifecycle, including proposal development, budgeting, and reporting.
- Familiarity with management of a mix of both restricted and non-restricted funding portfolios
- Knowledge of accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the International financial reporting standards (IFRS).
- Knowledge of sub-awards management

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
The job provides responsibility for financial, human and material resources. The position is responsible for all assets, financial support to the organization.
